changing my engine

hi guys , i have a 97 gst and my engine was blown up , i found a 95 engine and i am putting it on , is that gonna make any difference on how the car was runnig with the stock engine , what i am trying 2 say is if i am going 2 be slower or not . and also my mechanic said that there was gonna have 2 make some changes because the oil pan and some other stuff from that year was different and the engine i got didnt bought the oil pan. is this going 2 take a lot of work or is it worth it 2 do it . thanx 4 your help in advance .

95 and 97 are both 7 bolt motors.

and should be the same.

i am not really sure if is a 95 i was asuming that cause the mechanic said the engine was different , and i saw like the spark plug wires were positioned different than mine , so i dont know .

2g 7bolts have the plug wires comming out from the front of the intake between the intake and the valve cover...

6 bolts are the same location but point to the drivers side.

7bolt coils face front
6 bolt coils face drivers side

the 6 or 7 bolt is the amount of bolts on the crankshaft flywheels hookup.
you can put a 6bolt into a 97, it just takes some work.

and youll see.

vfaq has a section on determining 6 or 7 bolts.
the oil pan is different

basically its the same.

195 rated on 6bolt
210 rated on 7 bolt

the 6bolt if comming from a manual transmission car, will have a larger turbo than your 97. if you left it stock.

early 7bolts those found in 93 and 94 t e l 's had the larger turbo too. the 14b, this is 5speed cars aswell.

95+ had a t25, otherwas know as the t too small.

you wont lose any power, just might gain some

if its a 6 bolt it will be an upgrade, if it really is a 95 engine though it isnt a 6 bolt. either way if both motors are in good shape you wont lose anything

yeah , but the engine i bought didnt come with the turbo or oil pan , so what i am going 2 do is put my turbo on in but the oil pan i have 2 find one from the same year right , so i wont loose any power ?

ok, i see now.

you wont lose any power, if your using your turbo its gonna be the same.

since you have that engine sitting there.
go look at the fly wheel.
how many bolts, 6 or 7

if its 7, your good, if its 6. youll have do follow the 6 bolt install instrustions

if its 6, your 7bolt oil pan wont fit, or atlest im pretty sure it wont.,
you may have to buy a 6bolt pan online, which wont be hard.

ok , but its that all i need 2 change the oil pan or is there something else i need 2 do in order 4 it 2 work , also i have an important question man, can i vent 2 the atmosphere is there some kind of danger by doing that is there anyway my engine could be affected by doing that ?

venting wont hurt anything.

unless you have a GM Maf and maft translator or a fuel computer to tune it out, each time you shift, youll run mega rich. and your car may idle bad.

if its indeed a 6bolt there is several things you must do.
do a search for 6bolt swap.

but for now, just establish weather its a 6 or 7 bolt.
no use getting all kinds of crazy idea in your head, then not have to do it,
so step 1, find out what it is.

your car will probably run like crap if you vent your bov, dont do it.. the air that the bov lets off is air that has already passed through the mas and you dont want to lose it. when i had the stock airbox/intake on the car i could barely hear the bov at all, but when i got my injen metal intake pipe it got a lot louder, even on the stock plastic poopy bov. you can easily hear it from in and outside of the car.. and you dont lose metered air
