So i am getting my car ready for the summer. I am changing all the belts (alt, P/S, timing) I am also changing the water pump because i figured that i am already down there so i might as well. I guess what I'm looking for is how do i do this? I already have the P/S belt off. But how do i get the Alt. belt off? and to change the timing belt, what all needs to come off. I would be very happy with a step by step. I have a haynes book but i wanted one of you guys to give me a step by step so that i could go off both(but mainly this).

Thanks in advance guys.

You will have to loosen up the bolt that hold the alternator in still on the adjusting bracket. Once you get that belt loose look at the end of the bracket. Looking up from the underneath at the rear of the engine. There will be a bolt going through the bracket that adjusts how tight the alt belt gets. Just turn it to the left to loosen it. Which will take a while. When you get it loose then push the alternator towards the engine and remove the belt.

Sorry if this is confusing.

it is alittle confusing.. so all i have to do is loosen that bolt and push it?

My book says that there is a tensioner screw instead of what you are saying

I don't think you have to mess with tensioner screw. If you loosen the bolt that goes perpendicular to the tensioner screw, you can pop the tensioner screw out it's bracket and lift the alternator to loosen the belt.

I did not think about that at all and now i really wish i had cause i would not have to worry about trying to get the tension right again. But none the less i finally got it off.
Thanks for all the help guys

So question, How the hell did you guys get the crank shaft Pulley(sprocket) off? Do you have to have that special tool? Cause i have a 97 and i am just trying to use something else and it is just not working for me. So any ideas? what did some of you do?

The pulley that the accessory belts goes on just pops off after you take the four bolts out. Sometimes it gets stuck and you have to give it a tap with a hammer.

ok. I got that off. Now how do i get the engin mount bracket off with out taking the engin out? Just doesn't seem like there is enough room to get it out with out taking the engin out

Use a jack and a wood block to lift up the engine from the oil pan. Lift it enough to just take the pressure off the mount. Unbolt the the mount from the frame, should be just one bolt going through the center of the mount and into the frame. Then lift it a little more and unbolt the mount from the bracket on the side of the engine and lift it out of the top. The bracket is fastened by the three bolts in the picture.

Small puller tool, one with like three arms and a punch in the middle would work just dandy. But if you don't have one probably the only way is tapping it off with a hammer after you take at that center bolt. I think those things have a reluctor ring on the inside, be careful not to damage that.

I have a puller tool for the lock spring in steering wheels (diff car), I'm guessing that would work?
