I like it, it'll be hilarious when you can bleep messages to people at the back. I would imagine the entire center section where the eclipse it to be replaced with a grid of LEDS.

IMagine flashing this to the guy at your back.

"If I passed you that means you're too slow!!!"

yeah i had this idea too. it got too expensive, so i just painted mine, masked off for stars, removed my stock third brake light, and spliced into its wires and put two bright lights in the center biece for a star light up custom center third brake light. heres a pic.

id say its pretty nice, i would do it 2 ways proble, your way or proble just have that whole center peice light up when u hit the breaks. But still what you did is hot :thumb:

you know what, thats pretty badass dude. i really like that, what kind of led strip did you use?

you should also install another strip at the bottom of the centerpiece, that way it lights up around the eclipse lettering.

LED bump is from auto shop. It's custom design and about 50 LEDs in total.

I had several idea how to install LED in center tail piece at beginning, for example, top only, top&bottom, around or full.... :D But came out with this final. :p I just don't think put any other more than top of center tail piece will look better. Maybe, I will make some change.

uhhhhh just tap the positive into your brake line on the brake side of the filament

nice kinda like mine, but mine is hookep up to a push button and mounted to my clutch so when i clutch in it lights up. :thumb:

You need to tap into the wire for the third brake light so that you don't get the blinking.

The best place I found to do that on a 2G was behind the plastic panel below the 1/4 window on the rear driver's side. That is where the wire from the third brake light plugs in before it is routed up into the hatch. I have a photo of the location at home but not at work. It was a white 2-wire plug with grey foam wrapped around it.

I had to find the same wire to do my LED tail conversion.

The only other alternative is to buy one of those converters like used to be available at Wal-Mart etc. to install your own third brake light. They are harder to find now but some of those brake light kits that plug into a truck's receiver hitch have the same module and you could take one from that and use it.

For simplicity, would recommend finding the wire for your third brake light as long as you don't put too much additional load on the system.

are you using the stock tailpiece or another one?
Yes its the stock tailpiece i just painted over the letters then took the letters off

I'll try that, i dont think it will be to much load since i took off the original third brake light from the other spoiler

i know this is going to sound stupid but is the center piece ,that says mitsubishi supposed to light up?if not i,m going to try and find away to make it glow at night.

i dont believe it does.. but why do u want it to "glow".. looks fine as it is.. just my opinion.. :dsm:

You could hook up a couple LED's that are tapped into your brake lights. Just make a jumper wire from your brake lights and hook up a few led's or 194 bulbs... Should do the trick. There was a write up a while back, if you can find it.

Personally, I'd go for a high output electroluminescent panel, and just mask off the parts you didn't want to glow with electrician's tape. No LED light-hotspots at that point. Though if you just wanted the letters to glow... that'll be a whole lotta work. :b
