im trying to understand CAT-CONVERTER and CAT BACK difference
from what i understand, CAT-BACK is the MUFFLER
and CAT CONVERTER is the lil tube in the middle of the pipe
iv heard from someone that taking the CAT CONVERTOR out makes your exaust real loud
but its illegal
is that true?

i have a 2.4L :( SPYDER . I got a exaust put on from HP racing. Its not very loud though. I have a cone filter too. How can i improve it
please explain a little thanks.

The catylic converter is the little pipe right after the down pipe ..Its there for emissions laws and taking it out is illegal and does make the car loud ..When you replace the exhaust system from the catylic converter on its called a cat-back..Is your hp exhaust a full exhaust system..If not a 2.5inch down pipe and a hi flow catylic converter connecting to your hp system assuming your exhaust is a cat back...So header, nice down pipe and hi-flow cat :thumb: :dsm: If you want a louder exhaust then get a 3inch exhaust and a nice big muffler :p

so if i just take the cat-converter out, will it help? i dont really care if its legal or not cos i drive my car only on weekends or less. how would they know anyway , its not like the cop is gonna go under the car looking for it. the stupid cop wudnt even know what a cat converter is. anyways , if i wanna take the cat converter out , what will go inplace of that?
i think what the HP racing ppl did was take my stock muffer out and weld a new one on it.
didnt change the whole pipping or anything.
help me take the cat convertor out
does it effect the milage/gallon?
i dont have to take my car for emissions for a long time so i dont need to worry about emissions

If you take the CAT out you wont be able to pass emmisions. You'll just have to put another one back on to pass. Smarter decision would be to buy a cat-back exhaust system. If your car is turbo, go with a 3inch, if its not turbo, go with 2 1/2inch. Then you will be street legal and still pass emmision. It will also be louder depending on the exhaust, research the exhaust before you buy it, some will be louder and more obnoxious than others. :dsm:

Plus what year is the car. some newer (late 90's and up) cars will throw a check engine light without the cat in. plus why do you want it louder it only causes trouble. A friend with a 95 prelude header and 2.5" straight back exhaust gets pulled over weekly to be told to get it fixed.

as i said i dont really care for the emissions cos i dont have to get it done for another 2 yrs or so , by then ill probably get it back on or something , but i want it to be REALLLLLLL loud. cos i think its awesome to have real loud exausts. I have a really loud exaust on my other car , iv never been pulled over for that but i do get pulled over for other stuff but anyways again this is my question,

if i want to take the cat-converter out, what do i put instead of it , like to fill in the gap what do i need to put?

again , i dont care about emissions or it being illegal. I only drive the car to school.

i have a N/T spyder 2.4L 46g4 engine.

has anyone done this here?
how is it?

If you want to get rid of it that bad. Find a place that will do it , take the cat off and put a test pipe in there. A test pipe is pretty much jus a straight peice of pipe that you put in place of it that has a 02 sensor bung so you can still use your sensor

will takeing the cat out and getting a catback will it make my car sound ricey? im trying to stay as far away from a weed wacker as i can, i wanna be as quiet/deep as i can?

seskyrabart, not alot of people do that because it's not legal, you could get a high flow cat that's legal and still gain the sound you want. fate86, from the way it looks you car is turbo right? If your car is turbo it doesn't rely on backpressure, open your exhaust up as freely as you can, 3 inch is plenty. Once again, you dont have to take the cat out and put a test pipe in, just get a high flow cat and you will be street legal. Also, since your car is turbo it will not sound ricey. I have never heard a turbo car sound ricey, it will sound deep and aggressive. :dsm:

niceness, im waitin for my manifold to come in, then i have to rip off my head, extract some screws, try to get it ported, then save up for a downpipe and hiflow cat

... why do you want to be so loud... especially when your car is not fast... And I wouldn't make fun of police officers for not knowing what something is that just was explained to you. especially because the probably do know, depending on where you're from. Get a high flow cat, and a cat back exhaust, upgrade with some higher flow headers, and you'll get better performance, it will be louder, and will also pass emissions whenever it is without having to pay more installation $$ later

hp racing is garbage. never go there again. instead, go to extreme motorsports...while ur there, ask them if they sent my couplers yet.
