After replacing the headgasket on this new talon i bought for 700$ It doesn't want to start. When i took the cylinder head off there was water ontop of the pistons. And the car DID run before i took it apart, i was driving it down the road from my house and it started to overheat so i took it back home and tore her down and replaced the headgasket. And now she doesn't want to start. Any ideas? Much appreciated.. And yes i am positive everything is hooked up.. thanks

It should still fire even with that low compression on one cylinder. Had a friend with an RB20 and had NO compression on one of his cylinders. Still ran and fired up. But it just ran like crap. If your CTS wires are broken, then that is part of the problem. If its the CTS that goes to the computer. That is a sensor the computer uses to know how cold/hot the coolant is. The colder is it the more fuel it puts in. If its disconnected it reads a negative number. So chances are is its putting in way too much fuel and flooding the cylinders. It will run off ether for a few seconds. As this happened to me. So fix the wires before you pull it apart.

actually my CTS wires are not even hooked up they are broken and i need to get a clip for it.. which wires connect to which??? But idk if that could be the problem for the low compression.. but it might be why it won't start.... i will let you guys know the compression numbers after i get the head resurfaced with a new headgasket :)

If your ECU can't read the coolant temperature, fix that before you try starting the car again, otherwise you'll feel like it's Groundhog Day all over again.

I plan on fixing it.. I'm going to go to a junk yard and find a plugin and solder myself a new one... so I'm hoping after the resurface and i fix the cts she should run

I had also replaced a blown head gasket. I have to get the head plained out because it was severly warped. Did you let it run too hot before you replaced the head gasket?

Well i did a full tune up on her went out and did like 3 or 4 pulls on stock boost. Then was driving her normally just cruising down the road from my house and she started to overheat so i turned around and went home... Took me maybe a minute and a half too get home as soon as i noticed it overheating... And the stock gauge didn't get near the red zone, i will find out when i take it to the machine shop though...

^^^^^ as this guy said. Theres a real good chance that the heads just warped. Tear that mother apart and check specs. If its out of spec then its time to make an appointment with your friendly neighberhood machine shop :thumb: LOL

So guys I've been busy with work and everything else i set the DSM aside for awhile.. Decided to tear her back down and take the head and get it rebuilt/resurfaced... I just finished throwing her back on, torqued to specs using moly lube (ARPS @ 85ft lbs)... She now runs, but seems to have no power at all, and spits and spudders.. What in the hell would cause this??? Coil pack? bad MAF sensor?? I tryed to drive it around my driveway and felt like it had no power... Timing is set to 5 degrees BTDC also.. just kinda stumped

Did a boost leak test and everything is 100% good, no leaks.Did a compression test about 4 times in a row and it averaged at about 155-152-154-155, ... Do you guys think this can be fuel related and my fuel pump could be out??? i unhooked my fuel rail with everything still hooked up and cranked her over and no gas came out of the injectors.. so i am thinking the fuel pump went out?? What do you guys think???

Oh and i have another question what size aftermarket fan should i order sincei cant use my stock with since my 20g is in the way... LOL what do you guys recommend??

I was thinking http://www.extremepsi.com/store/product.php?productid=21615&cat=1572&page=1 ????

Did you ever replace that coolant temp switch connector? IT will not start with not plugged in most of the time. IT will cause the injectors to flood out the cylinders with fuel. Also try turning the cam angle sensor rotor 180 degrees if you already fixed the coolant sensor.

No i didn't end up replacing it, it cranks over and over and finally starts up fine, but feels like its missing a cylinder and running rough, i just noticed when i took the fuel rail off and crank her over NO fuel comes out of the injectors.. so i'm thinking the fuel pump went out.. and i can't hear it kick on at all when i turn the key,

The fuel pump won't kick on with just turning the key. Just fix the coolant temp sensor. You know that it is messed up and it can cause starting issues. If it starts at all than the fuel pump is working.

Make sure the head gasket was put on correctly just check for coolent. I say that because i was stuck for 2days trying to figure out why i was having a hard time starting up cold and my head gasket blew cly. #1 Had tons of coolent i just put a new one on and the problem was fixed with me adding some better ngk's. Also retrace your steps make sure everything is hooked up. Oh yea check your coolent temp sensor pigtail, my car didn't start when it was bad, had to change it put in fresh wires......Hope this helps bro good luck....

Tested compression, 155PSI across the board varying withi 3 psi between each cylinder... has spark from each cylinder, and has fuel.. And i am sure she is on time.. I haven't tried starting her in a month or so since i replaced the fuel pump, a month or two ago she started up but ran really rough, seems like she idles fine and then randomly misfires, when i am driving her she and has no power at all... And this was before i replaced the fuel pump, i was thinking the pump was going out and i was barely getting enough fuel.. I need to get an alternator fuse and then start her up and see if she spits at idle and still has no power... What do you guy's think?

Thanks
