This isn't a what color thread like my last one well it kind of is :p.

I had originally planned to paint it fiji blue with black rims and keep the black talon top etc however I hit a snag today while discussing this with the autobody shop.

In order to do a color change its going to cost nearly double the price of simply repainting the car the original color based on the fact that they won't have to redo the door jams if I stick with the factory color.

So do I stick with the factory green (you can see it in my avatar). I will be keeping the blackout roof/spoiler and adding 2ga sideskirts :hellyeah: Plan was to use 18'' black rims with polished lip.

Yeah there is a lot more work involved if they have to remove the doors and hatchback to paint the jams. Is it worth it? Thats only up to you.

Its only money and having the car the way you want it is worth a lot. My paint job was $1600 and It came out really good, but took a long time. To me, worth it.

Well the estimate I got for the paint without door jams is 3500$ keeping stock color. It would be almost 5000$ for a color change.

This was the absolute lowest price I could find anywhere near me.

Wow, that seems extreme. I know you can expect things to be a little more expensive up north, but that just seems excessive.

Yea its pretty bad, they quoted me 25 hours for labor including painting and removing and fixing all the dents/chips/cracks and installing 2ga sideskirts and painting all the trim.

Honestly though the next closest non maaco price is 5800 non jams painted. :ohdamn:

id be lookin for a private place....i know a guy in kingston here that does it for cash for about 1000. and he does good work. there's gotta be somethin in toronto cheaper than 5g. that's rediculous. there's even a collision center in town i could get the whole car painted for about 3g

Yea thems the breaks of the great white north, I could try and find a private shop but honestly everywhere advertised wanted easily 6-7k other then maaco. 3500 without jams was the best Price I could find.

If I went with maaco it would be a lot cheaper but :maaco:

Every body shop is like this, however if you sand down all the paint yourself its alot cheaper for you to get painted. just a heads up to think about

But if they are filling in the dings it makes it harder for them. Usually a body shop around here won't touch it if you want the door dings fixed.

While I'm sure the price is still high, i will assume those prices are quoted in Canadian dollars.

My car is in the shop right now... it was 1700 to paint, and 300 to redo all the moldings on the car.. so 2k out the door... I was told it would usually be around 3500.. but the guy I bought the car from has a lot of connections in the auto community around here..

Thing is not many people are getting paint jobs with the economy being the way it is.. I visited a couple places before choosing this one and everyone was sitting around with no work.. A shop is either going to try and charge double and get no business or drop their price to get business.. Try and find that latter of the two..

Ill post pics when its done.. Should be on sat or sun.. Its the same color as yours..

It depends man. Say you just get the same color you have. Well your already thinking of going with the fiji blue already so hopefully you don't regret spending the money for the same color and wish you had put it towards the one you really want. Just go with your gut feeling on this one. I'm sure either way you'll be happy with your decision later.

Really? That just seems dumb that they wont fix door dings or small dents. They are losing a lot of business from prople who want to get their car fixed after a hail storm, or anal people like me who want their door fixed after some idiot door dings it in a parking lot.:D

Anyways you have to take into effect the quality of a paint job. You usually get what you pay for. Especially with larger companies. Something that always comes to mind for me is looking at old cars at a classic car show. You can pick out the ones with poor paint jobs from a mile away, and one with a good quality paint job stand out in the croud in a big way. The same applys to any car. Not only is the gloss a big part of a good looking paint job important, but the time put into it as well. If you strip the car down and paint everything right, it will cost alot more for disassembly and the meticulous reassembly. And the time and effort put into it will show in the results, you can tell instantly if the moldings, panels, lights, handles, etc etc werent removed before it was painted.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that anyone else's car in this post looks bad. I am simply saying that if I were getting a paint job done, I would rather pay the extra money for the $5k job than the $3k job. And I think you would be happier with the results in the long run. But if money is a big concern for you right now, I would just have it redone forest green.

P.S. Your car would be pure sex in blue.:thumb:

Sorry for the novel, hope I didnt offend anyone
