Put together a write-up of the different compounds Carbotech offers for their brake compounds on a side project I have going and figured it might interest some of you guys who like to stop quick...

Also, if you want to buy I set I do offer them: Brakes - Maximal Performance /shamelessplug

Interested in any feedback as I know some of you guys use the pads too...whether it's comments on the blog post itself or here.

From the website:

"XP20 - I don't know why anyone would need these."

The XP line scales very much with heat resistance but also level of friction, and so you would want to use it if either the xp16 or 12 wasn't cutting it for you. For me the xp20 is what Carbotech gave to me for my near full weight time trial car on 285 street tires and I was just barely able to get the tires to lock so they were just right for that config. Switching to r-compounds I no longer could get lockup so I'll be trying out something new soon...

Also, about the comments on the Xp12 pads, they don't make your wheels "instantly black" early on in use. I've used them an entire track weekends and the wheels were only really grey towards the end. Black is what the old Panthers used to do and that shit was evil to get off, but the xp12s are nothing in comparison. Not very much dusting relative to the Panthers and the dust comes right off easily.

I was taking a bit of liberty with bad jokes on those. :p I know that some people use the XP20's as they have a need for them but with the stopping power of the lowers I bet that works for 90% of the people.

I actually know some pretty hard-core road race guys and they actually run the RP2's after going with the XP20's as they still stop as good as the upper XP's do but give you some more longevity...of course they eat up rotors though. They're mainly doing it to save money I guess.

As for the dust, they're fairly bad in my experience but easy to deal with. After a week worth of trips to work on them my wheels are coated but it cleans off easily. I believe they changed their compounds around to help out a bit. I wonder if they actually dust less when in their operating range which is why I see so much dust on the street...I never really paid attention to if the dust is comparatively worse or better when hot.

Thanks for the feedback though! Exactly what I wanted. :)
