I recently did an entire engine overhaul with a ton of new parts. The starter is all original and worked perfectly before taking it off last October. I've checked the connections and all are secure. Multimeter shows 12 volts from power, ground is good and around 4 volts from the ignition trigger. I also tried giving the solenoid and starter a nice whack with a hammer to no avail. Do you guys think my starter died? It just seems too coincidental to me.
*edit* I've since tried jumping the ignition trigger straight from the battery and the same thing happens. A click/bang is coming from the starter/solenoid. I also turned the engine by hand, so it's fine. A buddy told me there's supposed to be a ground wire going to a transmission mount. My only ground (to my knowledge) is going straight to the battery. Are there more than one ground wires?
**edit** I took the starter off and tested it. It engages (that's the click/bang), but it doesn't spin. I'm gonna take it to adanced auto to have them test it and, if they confirm it's toast, I'll pick up a new one. It's weird to think it died just sitting there, but I guess crazier things have happened.
