Hey guys,
I'm currently having a problem starting/stay running after my rebuild. The car (90 TSI) is running pig rich (just by the way the exhaust smells) and I have tried just about everything short of going to a shop. The rebuild consists stock bottom end with new rings; redone head with new valves, valve seals, springs, lifters, and delta 272/272 cams. All gaskets are new. The only way we can "keep it running" is by keeping a foot on the throttle pedal and increasing the RPMs. It will idle for a few seconds or not at all without the assistance. Before when we first starting getting this going hoping for a good start up it had idle surge after a few failed attempts and only when it was warmed up.
Had dacowgod remote link to the ECU and tuning was apparently NOT the issue.
The TPS and IAC are working are log-able via Link. The TPS is set correctly and also the IAC was tested for bad coils and for proper in/out operation when the ignition is turned on.
Boost leak tested up to about 15 psi or so and while it does drain out, there are no visual leaks using soapy water. Found out the PCV is bad but with it blocked off you could still hear air sounds from the oil cap (removed). Plugs when removed for a compression test smelled like gas and the #2 plug was much darker than the rest.
The plugs go from 4-3-2-1 (order goes from left to right, brand new previously)
Plug for cylinder #2 is darker than the rest as well.
We were trying to figure out if the CAS was inverted along with different plug wire configurations to try to alleviate to no run condition. All we managed to get was some back fires on the improper configurations. Cylinders 4, 3, and 2 are dry on the piston tops while the number 1 cylinder is wet.
Compression test results:
110(1)-110(2)-70(3)-90(4)
This is on a fresh motor with new rings. We have been trying to get it started for a while so we are unsure if the rings and walls are still fine or if it needs to be pulled again.
Mechanical timing is set correctly.
Profile is up to date, any help is appreciated!
