Okay just finished installing a 96 motor into a 99 gst. I am running into a problem with the starter, i know its good i had it checked out. I turn the key and i just hear it spinning, its not hitting the flywheel. The two bolts were tight ! The one thing i can think of is that i used that metal gasket from the 95 motor and the 96 motor was aligned a little differently for some reason but we just ended up cutting it and just made washers out of it for the two holes.

Were both engines out of AWD(or FWD), you have to use the correct flywheel (awd with awd, fwd with fwd). What gasket are you talking about? Is it the starter plate, the one "gasket" in between the engine and the tranny, because if you put washers in between then theres your problem.

Make sure you have the ground wire from the harness right above the bell housing connected. If not you wont have enough power to both push the solenoid and spin the starter.
