car turns on but won't STAY on...

ok so thanks to my green eater here I am again

yesterday it would lag at boost but would stay on and drive as long as I kept off boost and rpms higher than 2.5.

today I replaced and ziptied vacuum hoses and now this is what it does...

you think so? I was also remembering that it did the exact SAME thing 2 years ago when I tryied free venting it.

The idle switch is a necessary part of the computer control system. If it is not working, the ECU will not "know" when to idle the engine. This can lead to some strange behavior. Try replacing it.

is there a way I can test it to see if its the idle sensor before buying it? I think Im going to rent a OBD from auto zone in a bit and see what codes I get.

Piece of shit auto zone told me that hey havn't rented or run the OBD readers on peoples cars for the past 7 years.... yet theres a sign sayin they do it for free on the door WTF


anyways I just finished my boost leak tester I've been working on sense 3! check it out let me know what you think.

They pull codes there, they don't actually rent out the readers.

Nope I spoke to the manager and he said not even if I take it there for them to do it. That they havn't done it in years. but he also pointed out that several other auto zones in the area don't. that they ONLY sell them.

Go back and ask for the number of the manager's superior, call them, ask why, point out the sign on the building.

eh Im not that worried about it. I'll be ordering my own tomorrow anyways, so they can suck it besides I'm sure I could just go to O'Rielys or Pepboys or Kraigen instead, their loss haha

Now back to the thread topic now. ok so my car has good numbers on the compression test, and I did a boost leak test on it today and it was fine. also just finished swapping in another MAP sensor and Idle sensor and those wernt the problem either! any other suggestoins or ideas? the check engine light isn't even on!

tomorrow I'll be ordering the EGR block off plate to do the vacuum line and solenoid delete, just to avoid the chances of having a bad solenoid and future air leaks. Also going to order a non cruise control line to delete that annoying thing by the battery to open up space. any other suggestions???

Alright so after 3 days of wrenching away and playing guess and check... I FINALLY found what my proplem was.

heres what I did first..
compression test
boost leak test
switched idle sensor
switched MAP sensor


I had read a thread in which the DSMer said his car ran better WITHOUT his MAF being plugged in... so I said what the hell I'll give it a shot. and sure enough that was my problem. I need a new MAF. when plugged in the car would stay on and idle fine for about a minute before it would shut off. Unplugged the MAF and started, and this time it stayed on for good, it just idled like shit! haha

SOLUTION= MAF
