hello. I recently picked up a 91 talon tsi that needed restoring. car has 165k on it but most always the engine still runs strong. Ive been painting it and forth now and im in the final stages of the rebuild. I have only put 100 miles on it. A couple weeks ago i found myself having a boost leak. Car still ran good i just didnt have as much boost power. Then i tried adjusting the mbc and took it out for a spin.

I dont ever run it very hard. But anywho i took it out and it started to studder when i would put my foot on the gas. if i would only give it a small amount it would start to run fine. Its nothing tranny related because it does it even in nuetral. It is extremely low on gas and the original owner let it sit for a while. And there is a bunch of sanded paint on the air filter. Could this cause the car to studder?

Thanks for any help

Have you fixed the boost leak? Remember one thing, the MAF registers certain amount of air intaking, then sends the appropriate amount of fuel. If the fuel is being sent but the air is escaping before entering the combustion chamber you get a really rich mixture the potential cause of a misfire. Turning up the boost is only a way around the lost boost, not a fix.

low fuel tank can induce moisture condensation and I bet that the system sucked up the water that has settled in the bottom of the tank.

Shoot some gas line anti-freeze or similar in the tank to absorb the water then fill the tank and drive that tank out on a recent basis, then refill again.

Trick is when a car is going to sit for quite the while is to keep the tank decently filled to prevent moisture condensation.
