this really only happend a couple times and then went away but i was just wondering what could be causing it. i notice that when i accelerate, the car jerks back n forth like its holding back some power and the exhaust sounds like its choking  like instead of one smooth sound, it just studders in between

hey wassup

mine used to do the exact same thing funny that you mention it but mine got to the point where it backfired and chocked big time. so I went to midas and they said i have to check and for me to run a test on it it would cost 79 bucks and then It sounds like something in pistons engines so the cost to fix it would be around 1k-1500$ and I was like your stupid. so my friend who is a manager at advance auto parts I took car to him and he replaced fuel filter ( hasnt been replaced in forever and my sparkplugs were melted from middle) so after doing that it quit studdering etc and now it has returned again. it doesnt backfire when I push the gas but it studders and when I go about 40mph steady my cark jerks back and fourth and it seems like the gears are slipping or not changing when it shakes but then again it could be the timing, I just put new 18's on em and it could be that. sorry I didnt provide much help but I am hoping someone more knowledgeable would reply as I am having the same problem.

ps: my friend said we should replace the fuel filter again b/c I couldve had really really dirty tank and just to be sure but then he checked the price for it and it was 23$ so he was like may be thats not such a good idea LOL. but please let me know if you fix it.
thanks
jesse

Replace plugs, replace wires, perform boost leak test. The problem will most likely be solved by going after these three simple things.

i got this problem too
and do to
i've done everything, spark plug, boost leak, plug wires. coils packs etc.
and yet its still here...
one thing that i haven't tried was to gapping spark plugs
all the plugs that i bought factory setting, or so they claim
what is the recommend gap setting?

0.28-0.30"

Also look in your spark plug wells. The little circle gaskets (there's 4, one for each well) that go around the well between the valve cover and the head can get really plastic-ey over time. This will cause for a bad seal, if any, and oil will drip down to the top of the spark plug. Your wires can short out on this oil and cause the stuttering. You can also try looking around the 3 or 4 inch long part of the wire that goes into the well. If there's a tiny hole on it somewhere, that's where it's shorting out.

Also, put dielectric grease on the ends of the boots when you put them back on the spark plugs.
