My a/c fan runs all the time, its hardwired to the ignition. A shop before I had the car must have messed some wiring up because I have no 12v power to my radiator or a/c.

My car seems to be running too cold, I have a brand new 180* thermostat in there.

I was wanting to know could I run a 190* thermo. in my 2g to bring the temps up just enough to get out of closed loop? Car is running like poo, and o2's are not cycling.

Keep in mind, I need the car to stay out of closed loop, but not get too hot. Also, the a/c fan will be on anytime the car is on.

Suggestions would be good !
Thanks !

Try swapping in the stock 195* thermostat and see how it does. The ecu needs to see temps of 192* before it will start cycling the o2. I have the same problem in the winter with the 180 stat but it hardly ever gets driven. If it doesnt help, check to make sure the fan switch is working properly. It is the larger 2 prong plug located on the thermost housing.

I have a 2g and I believe the stock thermo. is 180*. But I will try you 1g guy's stocker.
I'll also swap out that fan switch, but I thought they would still get some power to the wires even if that switch was bad???

Stock 1g and 2g thermostat are both 195*. The 1g thermostat will not work on the 2g due to diameter and location differences. The fan will not get power if the fan switch doesnt trigger the fan relay.

According to my FSM, stock 1g is 190*.

But I have the bastard 1990 model....I suppose the thermostat could be different, just like every other part of my car. LOL. ;)

My chilton says 180* on 2g turbo's.
I can't find one any higher then that on the internet...

Hate to say it, but you might have to try Satan. I haven't been very successful finding any thermostats for DSMs (1g or 2g) over 180* either. I had to get my 190* from the dealership. :notgood:

180 is stock on a 2g, 195 on a 1g. Exactly how cool is it running?

I don't know the exact F* because my logger won't be here till monday or tuesday.
But I do know my new o2 sensor isn't cycling and the needle on the stock gauge only rises to the first mark.

I'm still troubleshooting the electrical system to have it run like stock.

Sorry, I was looking at the wrong specs when I replied. Yes, the stock 2g is 180* and the stock 1g(from what I am reading) is 192*-195*.

Anyway, you overcooling problem is from the fan running all the time. You need to rewire the fan to stock configuration so it is operated by coolant temp like it is supposed to be. As I already stated, the most common cause is the fan switch. I would also check the wiring to make sure it isnt hacked anywhere.

I have checked wiring, I also checked the grounds and they all tested good.
I read that even if the switch is bad, if you turn on your a/c both fans should come on no matter what but I still get no power to them.

I'm gonna try and replace every single relay tomorrow....again.

You could always band-aid it by adding a toggle switch in. Though youd want to remember to turn it on when needed, but it would be a cheap solution to get you by.

Hmm. I suppose if you had a datalogger running constantly, you could set up an alarm to monitor the Coolant Temperature as well, to make sure you remembered to turn it on.....

That would be an interesting way to do it, indeed.

The other fan works correctly though right? So it shouldnt get too hot with that one going, but if he turned the AC on, hed want to also turn the second fan on. Unless i read it wrong :p

Hmm...Maybe I read it wrong, then...I think you're right, now that I've re-read the post. haha. Nevermind ;)

Actually no fan works "correctly" on my car. I want them to come on like stock when the ECU says to.

Right now my a/c fan is hardwired in to run all the time just so I don't overheat.

The shop that worked on this car before I had it sucked horribly, thats why they went out of business ! :notgood:
