Recently I finished my FMIC kit, today I started driving to work and noticed the car will not see boost. No leaks, no lines undone, no pipes unclamped. Everything worked fine for about 4 days. When I goto WOT it resembles the feeling of blowing an IC pipe off but much milder. I am curious as to how to check this problem out if the turbo is not siezed. Any suggestions?

Check the wastegate for proper operation.

That's a great place to start and will give you every symptom of solid motor operation with no ability to build or hold boost. Check to make sure the arm hasn't fallen off and let us know what you find. Might want to run a boost leak test as previously mentioned.

the arm is still there and the vacuum lines are all connected. boost leak test results came back negative of any leaks. also, i thgouht it might be the wastegate stuck open, however because of the dump pipe it would have been loud as shizzle and its quieter than its ever been. anymore suggestions before i go big T-Bo shopping. :D also, it sucks that i am not hitting boost, its nice to know i might be able to hit more soon.

kind of off the subject, will a stock evo 8 turbo fit on my manifold/fit right period? the exit to of that turbo has that bolt flange that i would cut off and i can make my IC pipes fit to it, so if it bolts to the manifold, will the lines need and moding?

Does the car feel like it's not making any boost or are you getting these readings from your boost gauge? Is it showing vacuum at idle or nothing at all?

You may want to check your spark plugs. They can stumble upon WOT if they are worn out or improperly gapped. Have you checked the turbo for shaftplay?

have you fixed this yet i mihgt have the same problem. i changed the headers and then heard some nasty sounds and now i dont get boost anymore. im pretty sure i had boost for a time with the new headers. but now my car boosts all stupid and takes alot of reving to get any. but its like its dumping somewhere and my car dont move. im hopeing its the wastegate, anyone know how to take it off/check it?

Nasty sounds? Uh oh... Was there anything in your header when it went on the car? I bet there was a bolt or rock and something that ate your turbo.

Or even weld slag falling into the turbine from a poor quality header/manifold. Chances are if you hear nasty noises and then little to no boost, your turbo has been destroyed. Im hoping it was just a t25 or 13g and not something nice/expensive.

here's more info. on my problem. the turbo was brand new, t25, about 5 months old. i am getting the reading from my boost guage. it sees all proper vacuum, just when its time to start seeing boost and hearing the dump pipe, nothing happens. i have checked the arm on the wastegate and its there, i cannot really move it at all to see if its opening or closing. all the lines are connected, no leaks at all. its not just at WOT i dont see boost at any throttle and its making me sad. i have not had time in a few days to look at it, my friend and i drove to vegas at 12 30 friday night randomly. so i am going to take the intake pipe off and see if the turbo is siezed/totalled. if not there will be a problem with the wastegate. does anyone have a stock t25 i can roll with for awhile? ROFL

oaky, my problem is solved. i need a new turbo as a result from a friend helping me with my FMIC. he used a metal l.e.d. flash light to cap off the hole in the intake pipe where the stock blow off valve would recirculate. i assumed he took the guts out of the flashlight before hand and was just going to use the metal casing as a cap. i was wrong. yesterday when i took off the intake pipe there were pieces of flashlight sitting in the turbo. 4 AAA batteries, 5 small l.e.d.'s, 1 plastic housing for the batteries, and 1 lens. so long story short, don't listen to your friends when they say, "look, it fits perfect." sad thing is i told him at least 5 times i did not want to use a flashlight to cap it. however, when you have been working all day, its 2 in the morning, and youve been drinking a little bit, "meh" becomes a big part of your vocabulary. anyway, its kind of a good thing because after i told him what had happened he took full responsibility and is replacing the turbo for one that is not battery operated. LOL
