My 97 A/T GST usually starts up fine and runs good, but some times when i turn it off, usually shortly after running it, the key will turn over and it will crank but won't start. The only thing that seems to work it waiting for about 10 or so minutes then it will eventually turn over after about a dozen tries. Once it starts i have smelled what i thought to be gas and smoke came out of my exhaust. Once started, when i put it into drive, it goes to a really low idle and with eventually bogg out if i dont press the gas... any ideas on what could be wrong? It would really help, it sucks to be stuck out in Florida weather pissed off about why your car wont start.

i would look at the starter or the spark plugs. not 100% sure, maybe someone else more experienced can pin-point the problem.

does everything in the car shut off? like having a battery disconnected? if so it could be a fusible link.

Check to make sure your pump relay is working.

Mine one day stopped and I just wired in a switch to turn on my pumps rather than dealing with it.
