Anybody use this car mount for their pda? It looks like the neck is bendable so you can angle it towards you. $30

How about this one? This one doesn't look like you can angle it or extend the neck. $40

This one may be a better option but looks like it can get in the way of the passenger. $40

I've got a 2G with a Sony Clie SJ-22. The freebie inserting the flap of the PDA underneath the vent does not work with this PDA. I like the first one because I don't want to have to look down to look at my logging while I'm driving. I'd rather just look at the top of the dash.

So for all of these mounts, I notice that the side arms are adjustable to grip the PDA from the sides. But I wonder if my tiny Sony will still be able to fit in this thing without moving.

This picture of my interior is a little dark but you can see the PDA window mount in the center of the pic. Mounted there my PDA is just like an extra gauge in my line of site of the road...

Where did you order that mount from and how much? I'm wondering how adjustable the side holders are. Because a Sony Clie is really tiny compared to a Palm. I'm afraid that even at the tightest position, the Clie won't be held properly.

OK. I just went out to my car and measured the smallest my PDA holder will go. It closes to 2.25" wide. The side holders have black rubber pads(neoprene) that grip the sides of the Palm/Clie, if 2.25 inches is not small enough you could add a little extra padding to the holders.
As for what I paid, I tried to find one on Ebay but ended up buying it from an online store for around $30. here is the link i had in my Favorite places..

They seemed to have the best deals on the net next to Ebay.

build your own...save money and be creative would be my suggestion :thumb: plus its always fun to tinker and try to fabricate something on your own.

I did try to build my own once from items from Lowes. I found an aluminum-brushed wall outlet cover that had no wholes (just a sleek flat cover). I bought two of those and screwed them together. Then I found L chaped brackets to hold the PDA sturdy. But after all that, there really wasn't a good place to mount the assembly anywhere in a 2G. I didn't want to drill into my dashboard. And even if I did drill, I wouldn't be able to get the PDA angled at me right. I think I'll go with the windshield mount.

Why are these holders so freakin' expensive!?

as soon as Im completed with mine(I started today after your thread so I have you to thank :thumb: ) out of aluminum sheeting. I drew a templalte with marker and my palm and padded it with velcro. Im painting it black now to cover the ugly velcro, all in all it took me 30 mins of actual work and a estimated cost 7 bucks...now before you say anything lemme finish. The 7 beans for spray can and the aluminum sheet Ive had for a while now and with the sheet Ive made a filter block off, speaker mounts and much more. Let me know I can give you a parts list or something...

Ah, I just bought this on Ebay for about $22. It is smaller than the other ones. And look, it fits a Sony Clie. :thumb:

I'm looking for one also.

Since the flap broke on my palm 100 I can't insert under vent either.

I'll get mine next week and post of pics. I don't like the velcro beccause I don't want to put velcro on my PDA! Diminishes resale value and looks funny.

Im not putting vlecro on my palm its only a bumper so that my m125/100(dont know for sure) can fit snug. My vii fits in perfect. Im going to try it out and take pics tomorrow.

here are the pictures...about $1 in supplies and 30 mins of inginuity. Could use better paint, but for the price I cant complain, not screwed in goes in easy comes out easy and puts my palm right in view so I dont have to look down :thumb: Let me know if your interested.

How is your bracket attaching to the dashboard?

there is a 1/2-3/4 in metal flap that slides into the crease where the center vents meet the dash. I bounces very little and doesnt bend at all, I had it in all day and works great.

Smooth,

I have the 9" arm for my holder. If I had know about the 14" at the time I bought mine I would have gotten it. However the 9" arm has worked out fine for the last 7 months. So far it has held to the windshield in temps from 15 to 95 degrees, only time I take it down is to clean the windows...

I just got my mount from Ebay from a seller named globalpremier for around $23. I got the 9" goose neck version. He shipped it in 4 business days. I really like the mount. It is very small to fit small Clies. The side arms are adjustable in a rachet-style fashion. There is a quick release button that instantly opens up the arms all the way. The suction is very very strong. It has a screw type device to really grip the windshield. It also came with an adjustable vent clip.

There ain't no room on a 2G dashboard to mount a big PDA. This car mount is as clean as you can get while still being functional. Sure you could make some kinda contraption that fits inside the center console...but then you can't see it while driving.
