I have a 95 tsi awd, the car is stock engine wise and has 85k mi. I just purchased it about a month ago and i am trying to get the car running right. You should know that i bought the car wrecked and then i repaired it, it sat for about a year before i bought it.

Basically what is happening is; the car idles kinda rough, low rpm's around 300 and when i accelerate it spits and sputters untill the turbo kicks in and then its fine. My check engine light is on, but i was told that it has a 98 ecu in it and i just assume thats why its on. I will have it checked out, I just dont want to spend the 69.00 just yet.

So far i have done the following;
1. Fuel injector cleaner (2 bottles)
2. Checked air filter (pretty clean)
3. Changed plugs, wires are on the way
4. Changed fuel filter
5. Changed oil, just fyi

Please give some other things that i might try, or any opinion you may have.

Thanks:thumb:

The car is getting painted right now so i cant confirm this but I think that the case of the ECU is a bronze metal color. The guy I bought it from said that the guy that wrecked it had a DSM Link in it and when he wrecked it he bought a spyder and swapped ECU's so he could keep the DSM Link.

I am planning on getting another 95 ECU and DSM Link, just hadnt planned on it yet for lack of money and actually needing it. But it looks like i may have to go ahead and get the ECU atleast.

Quick ?
Does the hanes manual show firing order for the 95, and then a different firing order for the 96-99. If it does I can just check it that way. Also if my car has a 98 ecu I am sure that even if they did swap wires around they didnt mess with the CAS. They just threw the ecu in the car so it would run, it wasnt even mounted correctly.

Thanks,
Ben

I don't have the Haynes manual. I have the factory service manual, so I'm not sure if Haynes lists two different orders.

Either way though, just make a note as to which cylinders are plugged into which spot on the coil pack and we can tell you if it's a '97-99 plug order or not.

OK, I finally got a 95 eprom to put in the car and now I need to correct the firing order. Here is how the plugs are ran now

The letters representing the positions on the coil pack are for reference only but I think that the cylinder numbers are correct.

A B C D coil pack

4 3 2 1 Pistons

they are ran; 4C, 3B, 2A, and 1D

If someone can direct me as to which way the plug wires should run on my 95 talon I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Ben

If it's a '95 car, and you have a '95 ECU, it should be 4123.

If you have a '97-99 car and a '95 ECU, it should be 3214.

Hope this helps.

Is that the order that each cylinder should be on the coil pack from driver side of car right to left standing in front of the car? Or what, please clarify.

Thanks

Just got the car running and I found out the correct order for the plugs. The 95 ecu fixed the problem. My car has no miss, the exhaust is a little quiter and seems to pull harder under boost :thumb:
