I thought maybe I had a problem with my exhaust/cat... I took it to an exhaust shop today, they said I had a little bit of a leak in my flex section. They replaced it. As soon as they started the car, and I hopped in, I noticed my problem was not fixed.

When I rev the car up in neutral, by the time it gets to 2k or so RPM, it is very loud, and it also seems that there is a "metal vibration" type sound. When I am under acceleration, this is also the case. I also noticed two other things happening at the same time (not sure if it's 2 different coincedental issues) but the turbo spools up uber slow, and there is a total lack of power. I know what you're going to say for the last problem, BLT, I haven't done one yet, but I will over the weekend, my main concern right now is that sound, I've had a couple of people (mechanic/ muffler shop guy) other than myself say that it seems as if the sound is coming from the engine bay.

What does this sound like may be my problem?

Have you checked to see if there is any leaks before the turbo? That would make it very loud and not allow your turbo to spool too well.

how can you check for leaks pre-turbo? I've turned the car on and listened for leaks and couldn't find any.

Well while listening under the hood, rev the car up to the rpms that you usually hear the sound. You should be able to hear it pretty easily if you did that.

I've tried that and all I hear is an extremely loud rattling sound coming from my valve cover/engine not exactly sure. If there is an air leak, right now the loud sound my car is making would make it impossible to hear while revving.

Blown turbo? Did you personally ever look at your exhaust system?

sure hope it's not a blown turbo it's a MHI Evo III 16g with around 1,000 miles on it and it hasn't been driven hard at all.

Thank you guys for your input, but this problem is in fact beyond my scope, I'm having a mechanic freind put it on a lift for me Monday and try to find the issue. I'm hoping it was just an overlooked exhaust leak or exhaust manifold gasket or some other cheap fix. I was planning on selling the car LOL don't want to drop too much money in it just to make it run right. I'll do what i have to do though.
