yeaa, so lately ive been noticing a tremendous amount of SQUEALLING from some belts.. but only when I initially start moving. and some thumping.. now my stearing sometimes gets REALLY STIFF, to the point where it doesnt wanna turn at slow speeds like the power stearing is going out.. but im not 100% sure... what would cause the squealling noise and the stiffness of my turning... thanks a ton guys :-X

Sounds like the pump is going out. The pump pulley can't keep up with the belt spinning, so it squeals. My other car does that when its cold...steering is stiff for the first few minutes till it warms up. Shouldn't happen after 3 years  but cars as old as DSMs, anything is possible.

well obviously if the power steering is what is makeing your car not want to turn good when you going slow, the noise is most likely a belt, look and see if you havent thrown your powersteering belt it will be the pully on the top and towards the front bumper.

im sure the noise and the hard steering are related

could a bad power stearing pump make a wierd ass noise @ idle to? cause ive recently got the wierdest sound coming from the belts, like something is rubbing even tho I cant see anything doing so..

HRMM I also just relized that I never put on the left side splash sheild from the wheel well.. so my pullies have been getting somewhat wet if it rains, could that have caused this problem?.. or does water normally make its way up there on normal driving anyhow?...

Its possible...I was in my friends car when he went through a big puddle and it got the pulleys all wet. We had to wait for them to dry off before we could get alternator and PS, not to mention dry the water off of his clutch.

alright... well with further looking for the problem I relize what was the issue... now I just have to figure out what to do.. haha alright well I turned my car on and just looked into the engine bay to see if I could see where the noise was coming from... then I relized that the pully the power stearing is attached to was kinda wiggling around.. but what other use is that pully ment for? cause I see that its like a stepped pully, (has two belts on it)... what to do now? just cut off the power stearing belt and see if that solves the problem for now?.. totally unsure of what to do :)

That is the crank pully. They go bad in our cars and split (surprise, surprise  ) mine broke in two one day and i had to replace it. I'm not sure if this is causing your squealing problem though.

That is your water pump pulley. You need to fix that if you plan on saving that motor along with your power steering problem. You guys are so rough on cars. :thumb:
