I was driving my car to work last week and it was running fine the whole way. Right as I pulled into the parking lot the RPM's dropped drasticly. From 1400 to 400-500. It started shaking really bad and sounded like a diesel when i pushed on the gas. Or what it sounds like when you let the clutch out wrong and you almost stall it. It seemed like it was runnig like i had my spark plug wires crossed or something. so i checked the spark plugs and one was bad, it had oil on it and the wire, almost dripping. i changed all the plugs but it still had the same problem as i started it up. never went higher then 500 unless i pushed on the gas. since i was still at work i had to go back. once i got off work i tried it again and it was fine.. i bought wires just incase the old ones were bad.

My car was running fine for about a week. i finally got my wires in so i changed them today. the car started up fine and ran great all the way to work again. it was still running fine when i got out of the car while the turbo timer was goin. right as it was about to turn off the RPM's dropped again.

After i got off i checked to see what the problem might be. With the car on the engine shakes a lot. It also has a hissing sound and smells like gas. i checked the spark plugs and they were still fine. so now i dont know what it could be. i know i have a bad 02 censor but its been bad for awhile now, also i think there might be an exhaust leak but not sure.

also when the car is on and i rev it, it barely does it. if i let off the gas the car dies. i tried raising the rev limiter but i didnt change anything. any suggestions would be great. i know i have to fix all these problems. but could one be mostly the problem??

Maybe a vacuum/boost leak. How does the car run when you hit boost?

i would suggest checking your timing/belt. If it is off or has jumped a tooth it will run well for the most part but the idle will be very rough and the engine will seem to almost pulse

I had a similar problem with my car. Check your ignition coils. if the ignition coils aren't the problem, then you might check the power transistor that sits lower on the block. just follow the electrical wire from the coil pack to the transistor. check that too. you coil pack might be good and that be outta wack. thats what was wrong with my car too.

Hey guys thanx for the quick responses. Ive been looking at it and the timing belt looks fine. all the teeth are intact and it doesnt look like its jumped a tooth. but it does say mits on it with a model number... never been changed or just had factory do it??

I hear a hissing from under the intake manifold. is there any way to test for vacuum? i just used the water w/ soap for the visible stuff but saw nothing. What could the smell of gas be?
