1G car in limp mode

i was driving home in the snow from work one night the car was driving good.the next day i go to drive the car it is in limp mode(stuck in 3 gear). i notice the a/t temp light was flashing by the dome light.i pulled the tcu out the only thing i saw was one of the ic or cap(the blue one) was kind of white. i started the car with the tcu out and no a/t light.NO CEL before or after i pulled the tcu. what can it be?
when i got the car it needed a tcu and ecu but that was some time ago,it worked good till now.

Sounds like a bad tcu to me.
