Hi all,

Just yesterday my car (1994 Talon TSi AWD w/6 bolt) went from running fine to not starting at all.

I drove the car earlier in the day and first noticed a problem when I had to crank it a little longer(3 secs) than usual to start it, but it fired up and I drove away just fine. Came back about 6 hours later and used the remote start (CoolStart) to start the car. It cranked, and fired up for a second, then died (this isn't unusual, the remote start doesn't always work the first time). Thinking nothing of it, I went in to start it with the key and now it won't even turn over. When the key is turned, the starter clicks, then a spinning/buzzing sound occurs as long as the key is held. (not a griding sound, but rather a free-spinning wheel like sound, but it is coming more from the fuel rail area. injectors?)

I initially suspected a bad battery, brought it to AutoZone where it tested OK, but wouldn't hold a charge, so they replaced it under warranty. I hoped the new battery would fix my problem, but when I brought it back, the same thing occurred.

I've done the searching and here is what I have come up with what might be causing the problem:
-bad Starter/Starter Solenoid/Starter relay/Starter bendix. I plan on taking the starter out and having it tested tomorrow. It really seems like the starter might be spinning but not engaging the sprocket to touch the flywheel.
-bad wiring between the starter and the battery. If the starter tests out OK I'll redo the wiring and clean up the leads. The new battery should have taken care of any corroded terminals on the battery side at least
-clutch switch wiring problems. The car was originally an automatic, but this was taken care of by the good folks at AMS a long time ago and hasn't been a problem since.

So, with that being said, can anyone suggest anything else that it might be or any other tests I can try before I take the starter out? I'm not sure if I have a multimeter available to me, but if I do I will test the starter voltage.

Any help appreciated.. Thanks!:thumb:

I gaurant its at least for the most part some if not all of the problem...check the connections to the remote start and make sure the remote start itself isn't malfunctioning

The remote start seems to be working fine... same results if you hit the remote start and turn the key.

Without trying to sound redneck as hell, trying smacking it. I had the same problem with my old N/T Eclipse and all I had to do was whack it with a lug nut wrench a couple of times. Wasn't a permanent solution, but it got me out of Wal-Mart LoL
Good Luck

Got her fixed... pulled the starter (only had to remove the battery tray, not the intake charge pipe or TB) and lo-and-behold one of the loop-connectors on the 2 wires on the back had corroded and completely snapped. $1 fix for the connector sure made me happy, car fired right up. Thanks everyone!
