The car is a 1992 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo. It was running fine up until a few days ago. It's always had an electrical drain since we've had it. A few days ago I traced it to the ECU and took a look at it. It's a stock remanufactured ECU. The capacitor closest to the pins wasn't soldered in on one of the connectors so I resoldered the cap in place. Fixed the drain.
Flash forward to today. It began bucking and losing power. I wasn't in the car but was told that there was a lot of clicking from under the dash and also a bit of black smoke from the exhaust. I took a look at the ECU again and it looks like the two bigger capacitors were replaced but the smaller one inbetween wasn't. I read the VFAQ and the board doesn't smell.
I'm thinking it could be the ECU, CAS(had a car that had similar symptoms when the CAS fried), or ignition coil. Is there any way to test these with a multimeter to see if they're within spec? What's everyone elses opinion?
Thanks in advance.
