Four months ago, my GS-T went into the shop with a broken tranny. I finally got it back the other day to find that it is running like crap! I have a big 16g, intake, exhaust, BOV, and a walbro 255. Previously, I was using an S-AFC to tune. The AFC is now removed due to the fact that I am selling the car. However, I do not think this is the root of the problem because the car ran fine before I put the AFC in and nothing else has been changed.

I will try to describe the problem the best I can. The car starts hard (rather than revving up to 2500 rpm or so upon firing up, it barely makes it past 1200) and idles low. However, it doesn't sound like it is missing when I stand behind the car. The A/F gauge reads lean. If I try to rev the engine, it makes it to about 2000 rpm and sputters badly and won't rev any higher. Once I start driving, the A/F gauge reads very rich...even the idle reads rich at this point and my low idle has instantly turned into a high idle (about 1100). Below 8 psi, the car bogs and sputters for a few seconds before accelerating like normal. All the while, the A/F gauge still reads very rich.

In an effort to lean the car out and make it sellable, I hacked the MAS, per the instructions on RRE's website. I still have the same problem. Does anyone know what could be going on here? Keep in mind I need a solution that doesn't involve buying anything expensive. If I had money, I wouldn't be selling the car...

No matter what I do to modify the MAS, I still keep getting the same result. Even with the MAS unplugged, the car behaves exactly the same. I disconnected the battery to reset the ECU and clear the CEL, which didn't help any. The CEL came right back on.

At this point, it seems obvious that the signal from the MAS isn't getting to the ECU. Could this cause the car to run so rich that it chokes on fuel and throws a CEL? I know for sure that the car is running rich because its guzzling gas like it's going out of style...

Maybe the 255 pump is overflowing the stock fuel pressure regulator. The first thing I would do is get an AFPR.

I think that hacking a 2g MAS is not recommended. Can you put the honeycombs back in?

That 255 is definatley over running your stock fpr. get an external one, or get a 190 pump, the stock fpr handles that one fine.

I was examining the ECU yesterday and noticed that a wire looked loose. Turns out this is the wire that sends the airflow signal to the ECU (and also the only wire that must be cut during an AFC installation). When I took the AFC out, I guess I didn't re-connect this wire very well (hey, give me a break...I was in a hurry...it was like -12 degrees here in Ohio).

After re-connecting this wire and putting the MAS back to its normal configuration, the car runs perfectly. Thanks to everyone who took their time to make suggestions and help me out!
