I have a 91 Eclipse Gsx. The car runs and idles perfect, everything appears mechanicly sound at idle. Whenever I "floor it" or just try to accelerate semi-rapidly the car stutters and bogs down on and off. Im guessing it has something to do with the maf or the Tps sensor just because it feels like an air/fuel problem. Any input is much appriciated :dsm:

don't jump to conclusions just yet.

if your MAF was off, you'd get a CEL. if your TPS was off, idle would suck. if you're adamant about checking it, on a 1g pin 1-4 should read ~5k constant (if not close, replace) and pin 1-3 should read ~.9v

start with the rudimentary process: compression check, boost leak test, leakdown test. then head over and replace your spark plugs, spark plug wires, check ignition coil pack, power transistor. after that, replace fuel filter and pump.

report back when ready.. goodluck

Ok i think i know whats wrong now, when i was rebuilding the car it was with out a fuel rail and i put on a fuel rail from a naturally aspirated dsm. Im definitely thinking this could be a problem and could make enough of a difference in fuel psi that it would cut out. Let me know what you think. :dsm:

You should replace your spark plugs.. I had a similar problem, it would stutter whenever i stepped hard on the pedal. Replaced my old plugs with NGK irridiums. Ran perfect after that. Basically the problem is that you let in more gas than the plugs can burn and viola it stutters.

check your base igntion timing. get a timing light to do that shine it at the crank and you can see a flickering number and that is your base timing..

Also if you have a vacuum gauge check to see what your car makes vacuum wise at idle 1500 rpm and 2000 rpm...

should be around 18-20 for idle 20-21 for 1500 20-22 for 2000

Also test your EGR to see if its working properly... aply vaccum to the EGR and car should die or bog down real bad at idle

those are a few things to get you started

also check your plugs and plug wires like someone else stated

your na fuel pressure regulator slightly will raise the fuel pressure, get a pocket logger and see what your Long term fuel trims are, if they are low your computer could be compensating for the higher fuel pressure.

BOOST LEAK TEST like oldman would say. If your car is studdering on boost, that means there is unmetered air. Usually that happens when there is a nice leak in the intercooler piping, or intercooler, or anywhere in the intake tract after the MAF.

Normally stuttering under boost is caused by a poor ignition system. However, a boost leak will also generate similar symptoms. :thumb:
