check for boost leaks...everywhere...the throttle body leaks between the tb elbow and the tb. the BISS leaks sometimes between the tb and intake mani......check you bov aswell i did a boost leak test tonight on a friends car that has the type s it was leaking from the screw on the top the vaccum line fitting and the gasket between his hardpipe and bov......

id change your wires aswell cant hurt make sure if you do the plugs aswell they are gapped properly .028-.032......

I believe it is a boostleak as well, check if your intercooler pipes are intact properly.

my car did the same and shot smoke in between shifts.. very wierd but when i changed the plugs and cables the backfireing stoped and the smoke in between shifts stayed but minumized.... different cars different setup i would recommend to check both. never can be too shure

Well on my car, it was "cutting out" at high boost levels. It was the plugs. But it was NOT backfiring, it would just studder on high boost. It was the plugs. Then I switched out the wires for good measure. Have you ever done the plugs and/or wires since you have owned it? If so, when??

Inspected your ECU? Do 2G ECU's get leaking capacitors like 1G's??
