I've had my 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS non turbo automatic for about a month now and I need to pass emissions to get my plates. I keep getting the P0134, P0135, and P0442 codes. Me and my dad have bought a new o2 sensor but it didn't fix the P0134 code. We've also had a smoke machine run through the lines in attempt to find where there is a leak in the hose but couldn't seem to find where it was. PLEASE HELP, the 30 day pass expires in 2 days...

I'm currently at school right now and can't look. But I will get back to you when I get home, Syn.[DOUBLEPOST=1418079071][/DOUBLEPOST]Chump. So I talked with my dad and he said it could be, but we don't wanna spend $200 for the part unless we're sure

I second what type. That pic isn't helpful really. If it was the wire in kind, they connections could be bad, Id suggest soldering them if possible. Take your old one, cut it where about halfway the wiring is from the oem connector and solder it into the new one. :)

If it's not the 02 sensor its probably the cat. The cat has super heated metals inside of it to burn off un-used fuel in the mixture. Even if you have a bad or miss-wired o2 a new cat should burn off the difference to pass emissions

Did you check for a blown fuse that powers the sensor. A lot of times people over look the purge sensor for an evap leak, I would check that.

If your dsm is running the egr, I'd say also have that cleaned out with carb cleaner, and use the long wire brushes to clean out the ports in it and the cylinder head/intake, this will help get the car past emissions, I even go so far as to take my whole manifold off and swap it with another one I keep that is always clean for smog days.
Also change the oil and filter before the test, test and [if good] clean the p.c.v valve with carb cleaner, replace the spark plugs with new properly gaped ones, clean the fuel injectors or add some cleaner to the tank [G.T.P guaranteed to pass additive works nice for this] and you should be set,
I also like to clean the tail pipe with carb cleaner and a rounded wire brush.just to get all the soot out of the way, all of this is what got me past smog in California last time.

So sorry for the late reply. But as of today, I have no engine lights and just 1 incomplete monitor which would be the evap. So I'll check for a blown fuse like @yhype mentioned. @mitsubishikid if I have any further emissions related problems, I will try to apply what you said. @guseclipse me and my dad did replace the gas cap and he did order an oe style o2 sensor. For some reason, we still had the code when we installed it so we put the old one back on and the code went away for the o2 sensor. Thank you all for the advice!

Okay so update, yesterday me and my dad were driving around trying to complete the monitor and the P0442 code came back. We're probably going to try and mess with it during the weekend, but we aren't quite sure where the purge sensor is.

Id try checking all the hoses, evap wise. p0456 is a code usually set when the cap is loose.

at least with Honda's, which I work for a dealer....a p0442 is usually evap purge solenoid or related. Honda had a bulletin at one point about spiders building webs in the evap canister causing codes like this. random comment but I was redoing my hoses on the gst and I found the large line from the intake hose to the canister mostly clogged with something.....dead? It smelled like that anyhow.....mostly clogged the line!
