Ask Me, Virginia
I pulled the bottom caliper bolt out and it is supposed to pivot upwards but it doesn't do anything. I need to get to the lower caliper bolt at the bottom which is stripped. I guess the top slide is frozen?

I just need to get the sucker out for other reasons, but can't get a vice grip around the lower bolt with the bracket in the way.

Any suggestions?

Heat it up, then try a 6 wall socket dependong how bad its stripped. Worse case take the whole caliper bracket off with the caliper still attached to it, then you can disconnect the hydraulic and cable (hand brake) line, and work on the caliper on a bench or just get a whole new assembly at a parts store for like $50

Thanks, but you think heat will move the bracket sideways? If I put any heat close to the top slider pin it will burn the boot. I know what you mean about getting a new assembly from a part store. They never stock anything for DSMs around here though. Gotta order online and wait wait wait unfortunately.

Missed that youre working with the front so thats even easier. If you undid the bottom bolt and the caliper isnt budging up its probably ceased and the piston is not releasing enough for you to swing it up. What ive done before is stick an old screwdriver or a prybar on the bottom between the caliper and the bracket and pry it off

Heat wont do anything there, i had misunderstood earlier
