I have a 95 GST the motor was rebuilt and got about 200 miles on it before the valves started hitting the pistons. The motor was tooken out and the problem was fixed and then put back in. Now im trying to start it and having a hell of a time. When i try to start it it will fire for a few seconds and then die, but when it fires it makes poping and cracking noises and shoots exhaust gas out the top of the valve cover. If anyone can give me some suggestions on what to do i would really appreciate it.

Compression test and check the timing. :laser:

compression, spark and fuel - quoted from oldman.. you have no idea how many times he said that to me LOL

make sure you're getting good compression across all 4, if not, you may have bent valves from bad timing.

pull each individual spark plug out at night and crank the car, make sure you get spark on all four.

after cranking, smell/look at the spark plug or plug hole, make sure it's soaked in fuel or at least smells of it. or you can pull the injectors out and fire her up that way. or even unbolt the fuel rail, etc.

if all 3 thigns check out, its probably something stupid. so go recheck everything you touched.

i.e., make sure your CAS and camshaft position sensor is good..

ok i had checked the compression and it was 175 accross the board except for cylender 2 wich is 165 (same cylender that was purging exhaust gas and that is making a funny pop noise). All cylenders are sparking with the spark plug pulled out. Timing is all lined up just did it. I cant check it with the timing light because the car doesnt run long enough. The Crankshaft positioning sensor and the Camshaft positioning sensor are both good because they are brand new and im not throwing and cels, All cylenders are getting fuel as well.

If the timing was off 180 deg. how would i check that. If you mean the timing marks being not lined up then thats not it because i just reset my timing.

I turned the lights in the garage off and cranked it over and i could see spark coming from around were the intake manifold meets the head.

Im really out of ideas and not sure on what to check next.

are you sure you lined up the correct marks with eachother? If you are seeing sparks anywhere that usually means your wires are shot.

I printed up step by step instuctions from vfaq on how to set the timing and i followed them real close making sure not to #### up, because i had already set the timing before and i had a hell of a time.

Now i can keep the car running by feathering the gas pedal but it runs like ass and makes really weird poping and squeking noises, they soud like there coming from the intake side of the head. And the wires arn't shot there brand new as well.

By the way I really appreciate everyones help.
