Can you mount the passenger side fan on the drivers side?

So I ordered the cxracing radiator kit form punishment racing with the slim fans but they shipped me the wrong fans so I have to use the stock fans if I want my car to run until I get the issue resolved with punishment racing. The problem is I have the bigger 16g turbo so there are some fitment issues with the left fan, it hits the pipe that runs from the smic to the turbo. Its flexible so I can get everything in there but it would say its restricting air flow by about 25% to be on the safe side, i would think its a bit less. So the question is, how adverse would the effects be if i were to install the stock fans back in?

The passenger side fan(the one that is giving me fitment issues) is just a tab bit wider than the other fan so can I just put the drivers side one in the passengers spot and the driver on the passenger spot? Do they have the same voltage?

depending on the temperature where you are you might be able to get away with just the single fan for the time being, you can give it a try and see if it works.

of if possible switch back to your stock radiator until you get things resolved with PR

Pictures? Year of car? 1g or 2g? More info man. As of right now, the best answer we could give would be. It would be about a 25% decrease. Based off you saying it restricts it's 25%.

2g but I mean I dont really care about it not making power, this is my daily driver so I just need it to run and my old radiator is rusted out and cant be used. I was just wondering if theres any damage I could do by leaving the inlet up against the fan. I mean I don't think it would, its doesnt look like it but I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination so I came here to get some advice.

I have the cx racing radiator. I never even opened the crappy slim fans. Modded my drivers side fan to sit flush w the radiator and the passenger side? That was a bit more "hacky". I actually had to trim the blades an inch to get them to clear the actuator on my 5858. The J pipe would be even worse. You might have to ditch the passenger fan or get another drivers fan and mount it there. Its pretty slim and flows a bit especially when mounted flush like stock.

In that case, as long as the blades of the fan cannot physically contact the pipe, should be no issue.

Yea, even with 1"(which is a lot actually) less fan blade i still dont ever go past 210. Sitting and idling in traffic, 100* day, AC blowing.... doesnt matter. OP, i would suggest a stant 170* tstat. No need for a 145 but the 170 helped me a little especially on the highway on super hot days. Dropped it a few degrees.

Thanks for your help, I just ended up switching the fans. Had to make some slight adjustments to the intake and outlet, nothin a hammer couldnt fix.

One bolt of the exhaust manifold just barely touches the fan. Also, some may wonder why there is a random clamp on my upper radiator pipe, thats because I got shitty ebay pipes and they were not right sized at all, too long and the angles were off by about 10 degrees so i used the clamp to keep the hose from caving in on its self.

I can see an extra inch of clearance you're losing right away. On the AC fan(which you have in the passenger side) you need to dremel out the mounting tab on the fan. Then stack washers with an ID slightly larger than the OD of the mounting stubs/threaded piece on the radiator. See what im gettin at? It will flow WAY better cause its sitting flush and you will have even more bay room. Its an easy 1hr mod that maybe costs $3 in washers. If you get bored, give it a shot

Yes. That is our current setup. Picked up a stock fan for the right side, and it turned out to be bracketed for the left side. Changed the bottom mounting tabs and was good to go. Even the electrical connections are the same. Just running the one fan now since the left fan won't fit on a stock radiator with an oversized turbo. Works fine.

It has been a while, but has anyone had any problems with the plastic fan being up against the exhaust manifold like that? I had assumed that the driver side fan was metal specifically because of its proximity to heat. I ended up with the ExtremePSI J-Pipe that doesn't clear the passenger side fan, so I'm considering swapping the two so that I can afford other things.
