can you finsih seating new rings?

i have an oppurtunity to buy a built block, heres the thing the owner said he has not set the rings(the new rings have 100 miles approx). the vehicle has set for over a year, can I finish setting the rings or will it be a ring job and re hone?

at a 100 miles its a hard call.

I would prime the engine with new oil, drop it in and see what happens..

as long as the cylinders have no rust in them from sitting up for so long you should be ok

I was wondering about this too since on modern honing procedures, the rings are basically broken in within the first 50 miles if that right?

id say you would be ok because since it is a fresh new motor tere is no carbon build up on the rings yet and if the motor was sealed up then the chances of needing new rings is slim. if it was mine id do like bogusSVO said and re prime the motor with fresh oil then i would just normal grandma drive it for a couple hundered change the oil one more time then it would be game on .
