I've got two cars. The Eclipse in my profile, and a '94 Honda Accord. I'm looking to sell the Accord. As I predicted, as soon as I finnished repairing everything wrong with the Accord, it stopped running right. In the simplest terms, it's doing exactly the same thing as my Eclipse: The car stumbles on acceleration when it is cold, between 1500 and 2000rpm. I did a google search on the topic. 99% of the relavent returns said the same thing; clogged ports in the egr manifold. There are TSBs about it and everything.
On the Honda, this "EGR manifold" is a small seperate assembly mounted on the IM. It appears that the sole purpose of the seperate part is to allow disassembly for cleaning. When 2 or 3 of the ports into the IM become clogged, it forces the entire EGR charge into 1 or 2 of the cylinders. Thus, those 1 or 2 cylinders can't combust.
The similarities between the symptoms shown by the Eclipse and the Accord aren't 100% identical by any means, but neither are the EGR systems. They are similar enough though.
It leads me to have to ask: Where are the ports in the 1g 4g63 manifold? Can they be cleaned with the manifold on the head? The IM is one of the few parts that have never been pulled in all of my car's 214,000miles, so I have never looked in there. And I'd believe it if 3 of them were completely plugged. The egr itself was pretty crusty when I had it off recently.
Anyone have any help, suggestions, or pics? I'd hate to have to pull the manifold.
Thanks.
