I went to clean the ERG Valve and noticed that the steel intake tube that runs to the intake manifold is really stuffed up with carbon. Is it worth trying to remove it and clean it up? If so, should I spray the inside with throttle cleaner and hose it out with water?

Thanks for the tips. I did both of those things and it looks much better now.

I have a new question though. I replaced the upper intake manifold (plenum) gasket and placed everything back on, but I noticed that the left bottom edge has a slight overhang. I tightened all the bolts in the correct sequence. Is it fine to leave it as it is or should I reposition it?

Looking at the pictures, I personally wouldn't be worried about the small overhang. If you want you could try spraying some soapy water on that spot and see if there is any reaction (bubbles, spitting, etc.) with the engine running. If it's a rubber gasket, pulling the intake manifold off to reposition may just cause more problems for you.

Well, I have new problem to fix now. I started up my car this morning and it was idling fine, but then the exhaust coming out of the tailpipe started sputtering and the engine started to idle ruffly. A cel came on with code p0455, which has to do with an emission leak. I bought new felpro gaskets for the plenum and throttle body from autozone. I noticed the plenum gasket is thicker and has wider strips on it it. Could air be leaking through the upper intake manifold? Another thing I noticed is that there's a lot of moisture coming from the tailpipe.

The code is probably being tripped by a vacuum leak somewhere given your recent work. Take a look at the links I posted below as they will offer some insight. You can try searching for the leak on your own through careful inspection of the vacuum hoses or by using the soapy water method I mentioned above. It may just be easier in the long run to take it to a shop that can run a smoke test on the engine.

I have yet another new problem. The clutch master cylinder is leaking from inside the car. I was wondering if the bore is clean enough to be able to try a repair kit from JNZ Tuning.
