Can someone look at this picture and tell me what this sensor is?

Exactly what the topic said....

See the plug with the broken wire on the upper half of the water neck? Whats that sensor do? What could it affect?

When my car sits still, it over heats.. Well not completely but the temp gauge goes upto lie just over 3 4th's of the way up. When I start to move again it comes back down.

That's the coolant temp sensor, Get that wire hooked back up to there, You do not want to leave it so it does not work! :)

Exactly!!

Your temps lower because of the cool air moving into the engine bay while at speeds. Get that wire replaced. Your car will heat-up until you fix that.

Ya thats what my friend said too but he said that shouldnt make my car over heat how it is.

Hrm.

Hey are you guys sure we are all looking at the same sensor?

I circled it in blue with some arrows pointing to the broken wire and where the wire should be attached.

I know soldering its no big deal but it broke right at the plug so I'm waiting for my friend to go cut that plug with about 6 inches of wire off his parts car for me.

Here is the thing though. When I told him what plug I needed he goes why the hell do you need the plug for that sensor? You dont even have A/C...

I was like no the one in the upper half of the water neck and he said ya the one with the 2 wires, thats for the A/C and would have nothing to do with your over heating problems. Then went on to say infact, I dont even have that sensor. He removed it and installed his Autometer water temp probe there.

I also went into the #dsm channel and someone there also said A/C temp probe.

nope that's not A/C senros....It's and thermostat sensor, which i believe feeds into the ECU so yes u need it fixed. THe other one right next to the bottom arrow u drwan is the coolant temp gauge sensor...

halik

The wires on my temp sensor broke right there too. You can just cut the other wire and go buy a couple really small female disconnects and crimp them on to the wires and plug them back in. Your friend is probably thinking you are talking about the plug that goes on the stock A/C line right next to the fuse box since its the same. You can cut that one off and use it too since you dont have A/C. Or the compressor plug is the same...

For the A/c . You might want to consider getting a Chilton or Hanyes manual or something along those lines, it tells you all that and how to test things, etc...

Everyone else says its not the a/c sensor. How can so many people be wrong. Only 2 people say a/c and everyone else says no.

Just had someone look it up in a Hanyes manual... Says "coolant temperature SWITCH a/c"

Interesting.

it is for the a\c. also for the peeps that think that the car is going to overheat with bad coolant temp. sensor. SORRY but u are WRONG. it will make your both fans work as long as the car is running, just because the ECU can't see what the actuall temperature is. my 0.02$...

Well that aside I still dont know why the hell my cars now overheating when at a stand still.

It was fine until I tried to replace my 2 rubber turbo cooler lines and broke that wire. I've changed my t-stat, radiator cap, checked to make sure the fans coming on and all that.

I have anothe thread about my overheating issues but it seems these 2 are running together now. Seems to all be the same related issue.

OMG children just fix the wire.... if its the ac thing then great you got ac again... if its not ac and IS in fact the sensor for the temp then you just fixed an overheating problem.... either way its a win win situation. Well unless you decide not to re wire it, cuse then your just being a lil lazy.

Just fix it.... whatever it did b4 it broke will work again and that is all that reallly matters

I did fix it. Long time ago. Didnt fix my problems.

Still overheating and I dont have A/C anyway so who cares about great A/C :p

Um no. If that switch if for the A/C, then fixing those wires wouldnt do anything and isnt even needed.

Its gotta be something else.

Took my car out tonite and overheated on the highway a bit too. I pulled off and checked my logger and it reads 235 degree's...

Temp gauges is WAY up there. Popped the hood, fans spinning away.

I'm so lost. I cant find a thing wrong.

You have different gauges. You had to pull those needles off to get those on didnt you ? Like I said last night on my buddies logger it says 230* and the needle is still half way.

Nope didnt have to pull the needles off at all. The gauges faces are just flexable enough that you can bend them a tad and slide them down over the needles then the hole in the center is just big enough to fit over the round part in the center so you dont have to take the needs off.

I confirmed with my Pocket Logger though that it was infact over heating. I also think I figured out why.

We did everything. Fixed wires, replaced sensors and everything. We drained the coolent and it looked clean too. However when we pulled the hoses tonite we found a build up inside the hoses that was sorta gritty and looked like sand. Scale and rust build up. Upon finding this we took another radiator from another DSM and swapped them out and went for a drive.

After 15 minutes or driven, I pulled into a parking lot and let her idle for a good 20 minutes. Guess what.. The needle stayed just below half way. Before within 2 to 5 minutes of idle after driving it would rocket up to about where the needle is in the picture above. I'm going to take it for a drive again tomarrow and confirm on the logger but it seems to have fixed the over heating problem.

I might have to buy another new radiator to look into having that one professionally flushed and cleaned at a radiator shop. Hope they can fix it, its a Fluidyne radiator :( bi*** wasnt cheap.

Thanks for all the help guys.
