6500 RPMs, TRE 10% Taller 5th gear. How fast is that?

Ok, I found a nice utility online using the gear ratios from the VFAQ. In case anyone is interested on the max speeds for each gear they're in, check it out. Here's the links:

I have to go verify my tire size, but it looks like at 6500 I would be traveling approximately 162.

Either yor gearing or tire size is wayy off. Recheck and try again.

Yeah I had to verify the tire size. With 225/45/R17, 6500RPM, and stock gear ratio I get 142MPH. Add 10% to that and I get 156.2...so not that far off, but disappointing.

There's a lot more to it than gearing, and to get the body of a DSM through the air at 160+, bring at least 500 horsepower.

Aerodynamic drag increases as the square of the speed.
With the stock DSM top speed at 142 MPH drag limited at 210 HP:

160/142 = 1.127 increase in speed
1.127^2 = 1.27 HP increase required
1.27 * 210 = 268 HP required for 160 MPH.

And that 268 HP is at the shaft, not WHP.

160 MPH is well within the range of a modified DSM engine.

Let's not talk about the consequences of doing 160 MPH on a 15 year old suspension.

Math is easy.
Bench racing is easy.

I posted a very simple question. I'm not running around bragging, posting the pics or video, or even telling anyone I did it on an enclosed course. I just wanted some help figuring out how fast a DSM would travel at a given RPM. I see no problem with any of this. In any case, I got my answer, I would lock the thread.

Exactly, shit happens and then you get over it. I laugh at people on here that act as if they've never done anything that'd risk their or someone else's life before in a car. I call BS

I feel like you have a point there. I mean, we have all done stupid things and risked our lives but I think TunaTalon has a point too. Some things are dangerous to attempt period. Whether your in a fully race prepped car or not, shit happens. I understand it. You understand it, and we choose to do it anyway.

Although you have a point, turning this thread into a moral discussion is utterly ridiculous. I could argue with you that it is wrong to modify our cars at all for power unless we don't drive them on the street because we would most likely be speeding and endangering the lives of ourselves and others. The danger is there, no doubt, and I choose to deal with a little danger. I could slip and fall in the shower tonight, hit my head, and die. Knowing this, do you still shower? I do, but I have my little rubber mat that helps me not slip

All jokes aside, I really just wanted to know how fast I would be going at a given RPM. Talking about danger, funerals, or looking at pictures isn't helping.
