420A can only get .12 volts to ac compressor

I have a 98 2.0 non turbo that the ac stopped working on. I have checked the freon level jumped the pressure switch and now have worked my way to the voltages. the ac clutch will not engage and I am only getting .12 volts to the compressor. I would feed 12 volts to the compressor but dont know where to go with it. would be grateful for help.

Check the range on your multimeter and make sure it is correct, you may be getting 12volts and the decibel point is in the wrong spot. If it is only .12 volts try running a wire from a known good 12v source and see if the compressor works, the compressor it's self may have a short in it.

I have my volt meter for a range of 0 to 20 volts on dc so it should be right. I have also changed all of the ac relays I could find, are they all under the hood. I also think the voltage I am getting may be back feed. the strangest part of the story is the ac stopped working almost immeditly after I changed the coolant temp sensor on the thermostat housing. I have spent several hours rechecking to make sure I didn't leave any wires off that would lead to this problem.

Also to avoid any further damage could someone explain were to feed a good 12 volts to the compresser, Ijust dont want to put it to the wrong wire and do more harm. would be very grateful

My personal preference is the cig lighter or use a 12 bat, not your car bat though. If its just for a test I always use my cig lighter though. If you use it do yourself a favor and run two wires out and cap them off so it's not such a hastle next time you need it.

alright I finally jumped the compressor and it came on so I started following wires to see where the bad spot was. I chased it to be in between where it comes in from the firewall and the ac switch on the dash what is between there a board maybe anyone know.

Fixed sort of. I got a new ac button for the dash put it on and the ac started working. It worked for about 5 min then stopped again so I got out my tester. I found that I had a short in the wiring harness just under the steering wheel. instead of untangling all of the wires I installed a togel switch off a new power sorce and it works perfect. to boot I can now turn my secound radiator fan on at will. just to piont out I ran my new power thru all the switches and relays to safegaurd myself.
