You can but why don't you just use something thats made for cleaning? Like a degreaser or even some form of paint thinner? Just make sure you have a cold engine bay BEFORE cleaning with any sort of flammable material.:thumb:

A local detailing shop told me that they use a acid based cleaner to get oxidation and other stuff for cleaning the valve cover.

i wouldnt use gas personally go to adavance napa or autozone and get the hevy duty engine degreaser its like $1.80 a can it works great.

PURPLE POWER is the best engine cleaner I have EVER used, it ate the paint of my valve cover.

Just to clarify, it didn't eat the orginal paint or the paint from my car, just the ghetto paint job that I put on my valve cover. IT got almost all the mud out.

I'd imagine gas would technically be okay.....I'd remove the valve cover if I was using gas, though. Just to avoid spilling it and starting a fire later. But I'm paranoid, so....

The others have good advice though - just buy a good quality degreaser (they're very cheap) and go at it.

I need to post pics of the before and after of my engine bay

Do it :) I'd be interested in seeing the comparison.

There are still a few sections of my engine bay that need a good cleaning...... Maybe I'll give your Purple Power stuff a try ;)

i've been told by several peopole not to use gasoline because it can leave a filmy residue after it is dried and if it gets the right conditions. BOOM
