Can I start the car with no tranny fluid and no transfer case fluid?

I want to know if I could start the car to make sure the motor is still good after going through a pp/clutch/flywheel swap.

I had to use more heat on the flywheel bolts than I cared to and turned the crank pulley backwards a few times accidentally when using the crank key and breaker bar for leverage when removing the flywheel bolts.

I am guessing that the odds I wrecked the engine are low but I want to make sure before I put any more time/money/work into this car.

I would also like to start it for a little while since it has been sitting here for 4 months and I don't know when I will have time to add these fluids.

I don't see how this can be harmful as long as I don't put it in gear.

Any thoughts?

No, it won't hurt anything if you start it without any trans fluid, but I wouldn't start reving it up or move it around. But why risk it. You took all that time to do he clutch, it wouldn't take but 15min to fill the tranny and transfer case

Thanks, I filled them up before I posted and wish that I didn't. Looks like I might have to drop the tranny...not sure if I did the clutch install right. There is always a method to what I do even if it is not popular. If the tranny has to come down then I get stuck buying more tranny fluid. I know I am cheap, but it is my money. At least the engine is ok.

just get a clean drain pan and drain it. then reuse it.

It would not have mattered as long as you held in the clutch. If you put it in neutral and let the clutch out, it would spin the trans gears. Just holding the clutch down would have let you crank it and not worry about the trans or any other part of the drivetrain.

Thanks all! Glad that I didn't try this since I have a disengagement issue. I will get another pan if I have to keep going through this.
