Ok, I know this is a really stupid noobie question but my dad helped me buy the car and wont get off my back about this till he sees an answer in writing. I need to check the fluid level in my 90 awd turbo eclipse. Does the car have to be level to check the fluid. I was under the impression you could just jack it up, take out the bolt, and put your pinky in..if your pinky gets wet your fluid is fine. At least thats how it was described to me when i got the car. Any suggestions on this to get my dad off my case would be much appreciated. :thumb:

If you check it when the car is lifted then you will get a bit of a false reading. The fluid will be sloshed to the back and lower than if it were lever. I dont think it is a big deal. I check the fluid the way you described. I jack it up a bit so I can get under it and I pull the fill plug and give it a little stinky pinky action. If its wet then its full.

Screw it, it's dad. He can't be told anything. The transfer case uses so little fluid that it doesn't matter if it's level or not, as either overfilling or under by the amount of tilt you'll put in by jacking up one end or the other just won't matter.

However, for your own sake and to shut him up, just have it done in a garage on a lift so it's nice and level. If they tag you twenty bucks for it, it's a crime. But it'll give you a rest.

Just wait, you'll get it when you get old. And maybe you'll remember this well enough to not be a jerk to your kids.
