I have a 95 Eclipse that I just got done with the motor and turbo kit and have put about 2k on it. I have done about everything I can think of. I am still having a few small problems like my idle is a little to high at times. It goes up to about 1200 and sits there. Another problem is my power steering belt keeps coming off. I think thats because of the new crank pully. But here are a list of mods and I was hoping some Forum Gurus can help me out. I was thinking upgrading the fuel soem more and gettin an safc or some sort of fuel control. I was also wondering is there was anythign liek a pocketlogger I can get for these cars? I have them in my 1g and 2g GSX but im new to the world of FWD. So please help me out Ive been tryin to get info but its hard to come across good info on these cars. Thanks for any help!

You fully built and turbo'd a 420a for $2,000? Riiiiiight.

You need to think some more (since you also forgot to post your mod list).

Could be a dried out vac line, vac leak somewhere, toasted TB gasket, or dirty/faulty IAC.

What pulley? What belts? Are you 100% certain you got it on all the way? Even 1mm can cause persistant belt slippage on those things.

As in post the list for you? :p

SAFC is a good idea, but for the price of one, you could get a Megasquirt and never need any more fuel control mods again (turbo or otherwise). If you're built and all that, you might benefit from larger injectors and the ability to tune them to your application.

Have you tried looking on the PocketLogger site? Mike offers a 2GNT version. I've used it many times and it works great.

id say you need a bored out tb, maybe 60mm, and you need to ditch the 10's and get some 14 cams. what boost are you running? i also dont see any cat related mods. hi flow or test pipe perhaps??? maybe with your engine being built that much, a nitrous shot is in order?

Yes. You could benefit from a larger TB (unlike most posts on here). You have the ability to maintain charge velocity through the thing with the turbo. A larger TB will be fun for you. I've heard turbo people say it's the best mod they did next to the tubo itself.

I don't think I would agree on the Crane 0014s. I've heard some pretty big turbo people talking they turn into shit above 5,000rpm when you run a larger turbo. Apparently, they're best if you have a Star kit running a 40 or 47 trim, and maybe okay with a S16G or S20, but I know of two guys running larger turbos than that saying they can't flow right at the top end and the amount of back up pressure in the intake manifold is really bad. These guys are into some serious shit and both have their 14s for sale right now waiting on Crower 3s. Personally, I think Crowers are better anyways, but it's my opinion there.

Thanks for posting the mod list. 2000 miles makes a lot more sense. :p

from what i've read, crower 3's and turbo don't go together. crower 2's and turbo or crower 3's n/a and nos...trust

Maybe some people like the power to come on like a high ballin freight train around 3 grand...

Yea the motor has 2k on it. As for the cams I think they are great, they have a nice powerband. So my next step shoudl be a throttle body? I was thinking more like a fuel upgrade like a set of 550s and a safc or some sort or piggy back system. I dont want to run any nitrous, I always just thought of it as an easy way out. It may come some day but not for a while. I just want to get some stuff done before next race season. I will def be gettin some slicks. But can someone throw me in teh correct direction. As far as now, I know about getting a bigger throttle body. Well thanks for the help so far. Keep it coming!!

Ohh yea. I cant seem to get the idle right. It jumps all over and usually settles at 1500 and drops to abotu 1000 at times. I cant find a vacuum leak or anything. What else can I try. I want it to idle correctly because when it does the cams sound great.

You can get the bigger TB from www.modernperformance.com Also get the bigger injectors and a wideBand O2. The injector size basicly depends on much boost you are running. And spend a couple of hours to tune that beast. :thumb: :dsm:

and the high flow cat or testpipe. if you wanna stay street legal, ERT has direct fit 2.5 inch or 3 inch high flow cats. or check ebay if you want a test pipe.

Yea I had 2 Gsx's. I have a red 90 GSX and recently sold my 380whp 98GSX. I now have a wrecked 90 GSX and this 95 RS. So from what I can tell, I should get a bigger set of injectors and an s-afc? As for the idle problems im having does anyone have any input. Im new to the 420a world so help me out. Ive always had a 4g63 and am tryin to learn about these 420s's. From what I know they suppose to hande boost better when built. Thanks for the help!

Well Your Idle problem is more than likely an IAC issue which is the other sensor on your throttle body (not your TPS). It is prolly dirty as hell and sticking so you need to clean it. Also you can buy those 550"s but good luck getting them to idle or drive with an S-AFC and an FPR... Your going to need to look twards an 8-inj setup or the mega squirt for fuel control. As for your belts, is your Altenator having the same belt issues? If not either your AFX is on wrong or there is an issue with the alignment of one of the other pulleys in that same system, or perhaps a tension issue. But you don't sound that silly... Good luck with the car man it sure looks great on paper...

Kirby! Whassa man! :thumb:

My last two bits on this one:

MegaSquirt
Wideband
60mm TB (Jeep is cheap)
exhaust

-or-

Tune it.
Tune it.
Uncork it.
Release it.

I fixed my belt problems. That is taken care of. As for the megasquirt I looked into it but it seems to be to much work and alot of money. And I dont even wanna think about an 8 incjector set up. I dont understand what you mean when u say 550s and an safc wont work? What would be the problem? As for the IAC, that is the one under the TPS correct? Is it easy to get off and clean? The idle annoys the hell outta me, I spent the money on the cams! I wanna hear the damn things! What is the wideband o2 going to do for me and where can I get it from. I have heard about those jeep throttle bodies. i will do a search on them but what year are they from? Thanks for all the help keep it coming!

hey bud, if you seriously want to see power out of this car, then the 2.4 swap is the only way to go!! from the mod list you posted it does look as if you're going for the gusto. it's really not that hard and the benefits you'll see will be much more substantial than what can be done with the 2.0 engine. 500 hp is a realistic goal and could be reached with the mods you already have plus the addition of some crower 2 cams or crane 18's, 60mm tb and a 3 inch exhaust system, correctly sized injectors and the s-afc. if you really want upper rpm power, get the neon 3.55 gearbox and mount it to your 2gnt bellhousing. it has longer gears and will keep your tires on the ground in first and second gear. just a note, the 2.4 engine has 70 more pounds of torque than the 2.0. :thumb: go to 2gnt.com and search for 2.4 "swap"...all your info is there my friend...trust :laser:

sorry to butt in here but can you really swap the neon gearbox in. I was always under the impression that the neon 420a is a no swap for us. If it is then wow, I've been looking for a bigger gear set(with no rearend this is impossible)

1. Wideband gives you accurate AFR readings at any point in the RPM range. Instead of the ECU going from open to closed loop or whatever, you can see where you run rich, where you run lean, and adjust your fuel at those points. (Just like they do when you dyno with wideband. Having an ideal AFR at any given moment will allow you to make the most power everywhere in the tach.) I'm looking at Zeitronix box. Throw it in Google and you'll find more info on it. Very badass set up imo.

2. You can use the 3.55 gears out of one of the Neon trannies. You have to install them into the 2GNT tranny, but the longer gearing makes better use of the turbo power. I think the best thing about this might be trapping in the middle of third gear at the track instead of right as you shift to fourth gear. Currently NA, I redline just a hair over 100mph in third with stock gears. Maybe you get 115-120 with the 3.55s. Not sure, but you get the idea.

3. Cam "staging" (since we all seem to like to categorize our mods by stages for some damn reason) goes out the window with the 2.4L swap. Due to the larger volume of the combustion chamber of the 2.4L, you would want to run a "stage" higher cams. Crower 2s on a 2.4 would be the equivalent to Crower 1s on a 2.0. General idea is to run a step hotter in your cam choice if you run 2.4L.

from what i hear these are perfect for the street on a 2.4, due to the nice broad torque curve. and, the crower 3's are more difficult to tune on the 2.4. that's just what i've heard though. i'd have to buy a set to know for sure...trust :laser:

Definitely. Ideally, we'd all buy a set of each and try them both, but once you install them, they're used and you know nobody in our community will pay full price for anything used. :p I currently run 2s in my 2.0, and they run fine, even before I had fuel control or cam gears. I would highly recommend you jump into the 3s if you're going 2.4. Of course, if you're serious about going 2.4, you've no doubt done a lot of research and heard others talking about this too. So no biggie, but I just think of how eveyonr who gets Crower 1s or Crane 010s comes back saying they wished they had got a hotter cam. Might not be as noticable with nearly 25% more displacement, though. ;)
