Can b shafts removed cause too much oil pressure in the 14b/16g turbo from the head?

My engine burns oil only when boosting. It had an EVO3 16g (which was supposedly new) on it,and it was burning oil only when boosting. I swapped it out with a used 14b I bought with no shaft play, that also boosts perfectly but still seems to burn oil at the same rate.

The harder the boosting and acceleration, the more oil it burns. More gradual acceleration burns less.

I checked the oil return, I think it's fine.

I'm using a braided feed line from the head (stock banjo bolts).

Balance shafts are removed.

Most of my searches reveal that the MHI turbos have a built in restrictor already (is that true?).

I don't know if my oil relief passage was ever worked on or not.

Compression is 150 across the board last time I checked.

The head has new valve stem seals.

If I free rev the engine, it never smokes, even after warmed up all the way. No smoke on start up. Only smokes on boost.

I bought a rebuild kit for the EVO3 16G, took it apart, and it didn't look that bad, really. I mean yeah there was coked oil and it had a wet hot side, but it's burning quite a bit of oil so no wonder. But on that metal seal thingy, it didn't look excessive to me. I mean what are the odds of it happening on both turbos and it still being the turbo?

I was trying to figure out if there's a restrictor I can put on the feed line since I just got done working on the head I feel too lazy to port the oil relief right now :)
 
The balance shafts removed will bump up your oil pressure abit You shouldn't need a restrictor feeding from the head though. Have you checked the PVC system you could be getting major blow by. Honestly rebuild the turbo that you have the kit for. I wouldn't go to much on looks alone. I mean your talking high pressure, high heat, and oil. Oil leaks can happen very easily on a motor or turbo if things are not just right. One ? What oil return are you using a stocker or aftermarket kind.

PCV is good, I had a catch can hooked up for quite a while but not that much oil went into it so I pulled it off and went back to the stock setup.

Stock oil return with the flex center cutout and replaced with hi temp heater hose (brand new hose), and I used a wire pipe cleaner style brush inside the metal parts of the return parts. So that looks pretty good.

one thing I recall is that both turbos had zero shat play, not even the tiny amount of a new one. Now I read that means it's coked up and that's why there's no play. Like even when dry and no oil in there the 14b had no shaft play at all. Sounds kinda stiff from coked oil I guess.

I'll rebuild this and have it balanced and go from there.
 
How certain are you that the turbo is where your smoke is coming from? Even new valve seals can be installed improperly.

The factory head source should see pressure in the neighborhood of 35psi which shouldn't be enough to over-oil any turbo unless there's a drainage issue.

Well it did it before with the other valve seals too. Like I said it only smokes on boost, valve stem seals cause more than just that; smoking on startup and when taking off from a stop, etc. correct?

I've tested everything like I said. Do you think it's valve stem seals if it burns oil only when boosting?

There was quite a bit of coking on the back and on the compressor wheel. Does that mean it's more likely in the turbo than the engine?

Hey I have my old exhaust manifold here and the number 4 cylinder it's wet, number 3 a little less, 2 less than 3 and 1 looks bone dry but still kinda dark.
