I have a free non-turbo head, same year as my TSi. I need a head....would it work.

I did search...not an easy topic to search.

*edit*

Its a seven bolt, 2g TSi. I thought the donor head was a 2g, i will have to see for myself in the AM.

Here is some Info From RRE on this subject...
RRE's Eclipse 2g Turbo to 1g Head Swap Tips

Thank You!:thumb: I still would like to hear from a few wiseman or any experienced and truely knowledgeable members who have personally run the set-up I described just for the piece of mind, too. Any problems, concerns, helpful install hints and tips would be greatly appreciated(What I mean by this is any information that, otherwise, is not described in articles that go over the swap - such as the one that BkzProblem posted).

As far as all the head questions you have, the info that I have found for myself is that a 1g head has begger ports but have tight corners for the air to flow. The 2g heads were casted with smaller ports but do not have the tight bends and corners that the 1g dose. I theory the 2g head will give quicker spool to a smaller turbo, as in my opinion the 1g head would be great for those big boys. As for the hole size for the studs you guys are right that the 1g is bigger than the 2g which can be drilled to accomidate the begger studs!! I hope that helps.

Ive used a Non-Turbo head on my turbo motor and all i had to do was swap the cams... but i have upgraded cams neway...but now here is my question... On rre, they say that may92+ heads have better passages in the head for cooling... RRE knows their stuff so i dont doubt themm... But on the 94 1g with the 7 bolt motor, does it come with the smaller ports on the intake or did the smaller intake ports only come on the 2g 7bolts...
Port size on 1g 6 bolt and 1g 7 bolt heads are the same. The port size didnt change until the 2g.

No Problem... Im Just here 2 help... the sad this is that the wisemen will not probably chime in since this is a newbie forum... kinda sucks for us...
We keep tabs of the newbie forums too.

92awddsm, thanks for clarifying.... Nothing Personal but.... Im not saying that no wisemen come on here once in a while but they'll quicker look at other post and disreguard the newb forums since newb tend to ask repetitive and sometimes stupid questions.... but when we do ask Important questions they may stay unanswered.... but thanx to the few wisemen that actually still care about the "noobs".....

Let me explain something about how the Wisemen and Moderators work this site.
We log on, and hit the "New Posts" button. That brings up 5~20 pages, each with twenty-five threads on it. We go through and check the titles for things we need to look into, can help with, or otherwise are able to address- this is part of why one of the rules here is to Use Descriptive Thread Titles. We all see all the forums, without regard to its title.
Also, you will usually find that if you take your descriptive thread title and plug it into the Search field, that your question has -as has this thread's- been answered many, many times before.

okay so what im dealing with is i have a 4g64 motor and i was going to swap heads to a dual from a 4g63t. but when i do this i want to put on a catback system on it and i would like to know if i can. where im going with this is if i buy the catback for a 4g63t is there any differences between those two motors (4g64-4g63t) exhaust layouts?

Yes you can still put a cat back system on it. Just some things might have to be adjusted and you may want a larger diameter down pipe for the turbo engine :)

oh and also if i do swap heads can i keep the timing belt from the 64 and put it on the 63 head?

nope!:nono: you will need to get one for the 4g63 cause of the extra cam. the one on your engine now will not be long enough.

Actually you can use either. Check the stroker tech. This is one of the things us turbo guys do to get a 2.4l. If I remember correctly using the 64 timing belt is used to get the proper timing mark alignment? Or they dont at all? I forgot. Check out the stroker forum. :thumb:

Exactamundo. The 4G63 timing belt is longer to compensate for the extra cam gear. When you do the timing, make sure you check, double check and triple check. The last thing you want is a ruined valvetrain because you didn't take your time to double check the timing. :talon:
