Can a 2g GST Automatic Transmission directly fit a Eclipse Spyder 2.4 Nonturbo?

Is the 2.0 GST Automatic Transmission the same as the 2.4 Automatic Transmission? A friend needs a transmission for a 97 GS Spyder 2.4 and I have one from a 95 GST. Will it fit?

Wow. I mean. I can see exactly why you'd wanna try. Being that's a 7-bolt 2.4 NA 4g64 out of a car with the same track width and a very similar 4g63 engine from the same generation. Occasionally you find a situation where you can swap bell housings if it's a problem. If it's an axle incompatibility or a minimum horsepower requirement fail, both of those could be fixed with $, but I dunno. I'm going to check my FSM. The engines are oriented the same, they're out of the same body, they're both 4g engines. ?

how sure are you on that 95.3 x π ? Maybe √85 x π ? I think it's a valid question.

Good link: AT Tips and FAQs ...good ol' Charles. Kept the page up for all of us even though he moved on to other things. I hope he's well!

There's a diagnostic chart regarding transmission codes but it doesn't say whether or not they're interchangeable. They're clearly rated for very different torque specifications, so it may be nearly un-driveable without a turbo kit.

I have had several people come to me saying that they needed a transmission for the 2.4 spyder and said that the 2.0 Turbo one will interchange. The two motors are very similar so it made since to me. I didn't think it was too stupid of a question and looked in several places and couldn't find an answer.

Yes they are interchangable. you must change out the pilot bearing on the 4g64. use the torque coverter from the gst. use the plate and starter form the gst and TCU from the gst, other than that everything else will match up.
