2G 99 eclipse AWD automatic transmission

Most people choose to go with the the automatic for consistent times drag racing. The other thing is if you look at the upgrade path its recommended to upgrade the end puck kits. more power may cause more heat to be generated by the transmission shifting alot.

If you plan on doing some modifying, you should install:
Performance shift kit(ipt)
End clutch kit(ipt,alto)
Upgraded trans cooler(ipt)
Obviously filter and fluid change with correct fluid
Roadsurge shiftbox or "blue wire mod"

These will give you very quick/firm shifts and the Roadsurge/blue wire is 100% line pressure shifts that will reduce slip, extend clutch life and power capacity. Best of all they can be deactivated with the flip of a switch.

I think he may have been asking about drivetrain loss? As to whether it was worse for the auto.

FWIW I ran 12.56 on pump gas on a Big 16g, with an MAF translator. Just because it's an automatic doesn't necessarily mean its bad. I am currently working on a website following the build of 3 automatics (one a 1g, one a 2g coupe, and the other a 2g spyder) which can be used by fellow A/T guys to model their cars off of to see what works best and what doesn't. It's almost done, except I can't get the drop down to work properly on my CSS menu. If anyone wants to help, I could have it up and running by the end of the week.

I actually just switched my car from auto to 5spd. The main reason for me was the gas mileage and second was the fun factor. I also got a super deal on the trans, tcase and rear diff so i couldn't refuse
My auto trans shifted super fast and consistent with the blue wire mod.
I was also getting 20psi on launch and it would shoot out like a rocket. I was very happy with how the auto performed and it would definitely be great for track times.

I'm also keeping my auto. I bought the car with the intention of eventually swapping it to a 5 speed. I'm hoping that a shift kit and a possible rebuild this summer will help firm it up. And you can check my profile for what I've done to the car so far. It responds very well. I'm still not sure if the HKS SSQV blow off valve is right for an automatic though.

I read somewhere the bluewire mod could be done or didnt work correctly on the 2g?? is this true because I was considering it on the 2g auto myself

If you splice into the corresponding wires that it would be on the 2g, there shouldn't be an issue. You basically are tapping into the shift solenoid wires and are creating a false 100% tps signal using a spare sensor and tap into a 5v signal on the ecu. The rest is just wiring between relays and some power and grounding. This is what i used when my car was auto and i'll say it made all the difference in the world and the tranny didn't skip a beat!

The Roadsurge box is listed to work on 2gs as well. If I wasn't so cheap, I would've definitely bought it!
I've also read posts with guys creating their own with toggle switches on 2gs

I'm not a proven member, so I can't post in the trans section etc etc
If you are interested in fitting a viscous lsd in your auto, this is mine.
As far as I know, nobody has tried this. It's not a cheap mod btw.
A machinist mate modded my crown wheel to my specs 5yrs ago.
The VLSD (& bolts) are from an Evo 2 box & needs the RHS axle.
The top vlsd axle is needed to reach deeper inside the vlsd.

This pic shows the difference between the manual vlsd crown wheel
& my 1g auto crown wheel. The centre dia & the ellongated bolting
holes were cut by (spark wire eroding) & the centre dia final cut
was done on the lathe to a micky tight hammer tap fit. You can't
afford the crown wheel to be spining out of centre.

This is the flipside of the crown wheel that needs some rough cast cut back
where the red cross is. It needs this to match up with the vlsd dia surface.

Here's the vlsd sitting on the crown wheel.

The self contained jell in the vlsd has no probs being inside the trans fluid.
I originaly made this for my 1g locked auto to get some mad traction.
It spins up both front wheels through corners & is a handfull to get used to.
You don't turn the steering more than 45deg & nail it unless you hang on.
The breaking preload on these are around the 8lb if you ever load one up.
The trans fluid temp keeps the vlsd very active & consistant btw.
I built & fitted a quaif lsd in a mates auto drag car. Another subject tho.
Cheers !
