Well I have a bit of a question. How does the camshaft relationship affect engine idle vacuum ? The reason I ask is I have Delta's 264/272 camshafts and I think I can set it up two different ways. With the ex cam slightly advanced , rocked counter clock, the car idles at 7-9in. vacuum and has a lope and a doggy bottom end. I put it together with the ex tipped forward , it does not line up exacly as the block/head have been machined. It has 11 or more inches of vacuum and is more responsive. The top end screams either way. Can the cams be changed a tooth without tearing the lower cover off? Use the rod/tensioner combo and slip the cam a tooth ? I think the car ran better the way I had it. I like the low end. Don't want to have to shell the $$$ for adj cam gears right now. Tres....

Wow how far off is your head from stock height? Must have your head milled to max and your block at least once.
How many teeth are on a 1g cam gear, 32/36 I think? divide that by 360 and if its under 12 degrees you may be able to get away with it to get your cams back into a stock location(zero degree).
I wouldn't do it myself, I would just wait until I could get a set of adjustables.

It really depends on 'if' you timed it one tooth off, if it would be closer to zero than where it's at now.
No way to slip the gear a tooth without taking the tension off the belt, you most likely will have to take off the lower cover unless you can find a bolt to compress the tensioner.

honestly leave it at stock and save for some adjustable cam gears, they can be had for a few $100 nowadays.

DO NOT MOVE A TOOTH..... please too much, leave them in stock location until you have the $ for the gears. Trust me blown up valves are way more $

not to hijack ## thread or anything, but i just picked up a set of 264/272 bc cams. head has only been resurfaced one time, which i had done. can i just put the cams in like stock? have everything completely lined up mark to mark like stock, and feel the power of the cams and hear the lopiness still? or how the #### do i "degree" them?

Yeah I wouldn't risk trying to slip it a tooth. I know it sucks to take it all apart, but if you bend a valve or something it will be more work.
For reference with my HKS 264/272 combo and stock cam gears, at idle its about 12-14" at idle and it was around 19-20" on the stockers
