I was trying to dig through the post and could not seem to find the answer I was looking for. I'm trying to collect all my parts before I start my rebuild. I have a 95' TSi that was thrashed until the balance shaft bearings puked. Now I bought the car and planning on building it up to run between the 400 to 500 hp range.

It already has some good upgrade parts in the engine already but I had the block 92' 4G63 6-bolt line honed and studded also going to run main girdles to strengthen the bottom end better. My question is, I'm trying to find out what the camshaft profiles are different between the, 1g,2g and EVO III because the engine has the 1g head on it, but when I bought the car I received two more heads with it, one 1g head and 1 2g head, after reading ALOT and debating I'm switching to the 2g head because of the close comparison to a EVO III head, I do not have the stock 2g cams, so I'm trying to decide whether to install the 1g cams into it or locate some 2g stockers or try and locate some EVO III cams. any advice or should I buy some after market cams?

Here is a good thread for cam information:

M/T 1g cams are a bit larger than 2g (+.010" lift) but that isn't much, if you looking for a 400-500whp I would look into aftermarket ones. I couldn't find info on Evo III cams though. Another thing, you may need to modify the cam based on which cas you want run.

I appreciate the info, I'm still weighing my options, I am steering toward the aftermarket option, looking at the 272/272 option the most

I was kinda leaning toward the HKS cams or FFWD's DKS cams after comparing a few, and I already had plans on upgrading the springs any way, just out of precautionary measures, LOL I didn't want it to grenade on me if I run it a little hard :thumb: LOL

To get the most outta after market cams, I'm going to have to get adjustable cam gears for the cams or can I get away with using the stockers ? If I do, is there a thread on advice on setting them? This is where a degree wheel comes in play also right?

I have a complete Evo III motor in my car. I have done a lot of researching, and I believe the 2G and Evo III head casting is the same. Now the Evo III cams are identical to the 1G M/T cams. Same part #'s from Mitsubishi. As stated above, the difference (0.010" more lift I believe) may not be worth it, and in your desired power range, I would definately go with some 272's or a 264/272 combo.
