I am installing my cam angle sensor after eliminating my balance shafts. The two bolts that hold it in place have lock washers and I can't remember if they go under the sensor or over. Either way, there seems to be danger of hitting the timing plate.

Can anyone remember definitively? Thanks for your help. :talon:

I have'nt had one of those off yet, but I can guarantee you that a lock washer will always go directly under the fastener that holds the part on, and not under the part itself if that does you any good. It wont work the other way around, it would be useless. :dsm:

I understand how fasteners function. A lock washer can compress between the body of the sensor and the block just as well as between the head of the bolt and the sensor.

Anyone with actual experience? Thanks.

Right, the lock washer is there to prevent the bolt from backing out. What good would the lock washer do if it were beneath the CAS plate? None, it would not try and prevent the bolt from backing out.

Thanks for the responses. I agree that due to common practice if nothing else I will put the lock washer against the head of the bolt.

Just for future reference, lockwashers don't do much "locking" at least according to NASA. I have a BSME(=strange interest in how things work) so I looked lockwashers up and found NASA's take on page 9.

I will let you guys know how she runs when I get the Talon back together later this week.
