On the right is my new Image Dynamics 6.5" CX and on the left is the stock basket- Notice the wedge that angles the speaker to point slightly up? It has to match up with the door skin to fit correctly. My problem is this: I have to find a way to create some sort of speaker shim that can be epoxied to a custom sheetmetal bracket that mounts up to the stock location. However I am at a total loss how to go about doing this! It should be rather simple but I don't know what tools/materials (mdf, plastic, etc) to use. I'm hoping someone out there has had a similar problem when their aftermarket speakers wouldn't fit the stock bracket like mine. Any responses would be great; I'm dying to get these puppies in the doors! :) :talon:

Why not do what i did and cut the round "basket" off with a dremel or hack saw, that way you only have the angled mounting piece left. If you're worried about moisture behind the new piece then you can get a foam baffle to go behind it from a local stereo shop. I had to do that for my Lightning Audios.

I'm just about finished with my install...phew. It's taken me about 4 leisurely days to fabricate brackets from sheetmetal, dynamat, and run wires thus far. I'm finishing everything up today by cutting holes in the doorskins for tweeters and probably hacking a power antenna unit which supposedly was compatible with my car. Argh, that has been the worst part. Planning took a bit of work to do it right but today it's coming alive today! I can't wait...for an audiophile there is nothing better than having a kick ass SQL car audio system

be careful rolling down the windows the first time. Mine barely touched teh tint on the 97 so i had to space em out 1 mm.
