I broke off the bottom caliper bracket bolt on the rear of my car (91 TSi AWD). The bolt head broke off flush so i cant grab at it with vise-grips. I tried drilling a hole in it and using ez-outs to no avail. I tried using a dremel tool. I heated it up and cooled it off quickly. I used candle wax when heated to try and help break it loose. With the position of the bolt you can't really get a hole drilled straight in because of surrounding stuff. Can anyone throw out some other ideas that I could try to get er out?

You are better off replacing the bracket. I broke 8 different drill bits trying (vainly) to drill one of these bolts out. I soaked it in PB Blaster tried different EZ-outs(broke 2), nothing worked. Try mitsubishigraveyard.com or your local pick n pull, shouldn't be more than $20-$30 and the hours of frustration saved are more than worth it.

Have u tried a chisel, hammer and a pair needle nose plier?

Yes, I have tried that, no luck.

Quenching the bolt will only make things harder for you if your trying to drill it out. The heating and quick cooling hardens the bolt making it harder for the drill to cut into it.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that.

As for replacing the bracket, I still need to get this bolt out to be able to get the old bracket off anyways, so that wouldn't help to much really.
